Whenever I see a picture of Moynes I can’t help but picturing him drinking a can of tescos own brand lager in a house party in stoneybatter where the tiny hallway is full of bikes balanced against teh wall and everyone is smoking rollies, the next morning they all have knitted sausages and nettle tea for breakfast.

What a fupping hero, killing an animal from a safe distance with a high powered weapon. A fupping hero.

“The kill was celebrated in hunting forums around the world,” there are worse places than this it would appear.

I recently listened to a Radio Lab podcast called Rhino Hunter about the “going to Africa to kill animals industry”, and how that in fact, saves the animals.

They claim on specific animals are allowed to be hunted, typically the the larger, over aggressive, past their sexual prime types that go around with a chip on their shoulder killing other animals.
Apparently, the industry creates jobs and is an incentive to land owners to let the animals breed on their land, rather than, you know murdering every last one of them.
The industry also gave impetus to governments to do something about poachers.

I’d like to know more about it, and also hear the other side, perhaps also to hear what David Attenbourgh has to say on the matter?

      like middle-aged hunters?

Actually I suspect this is true. Hunting and conservation, at their best, go hand in hand. Gun clubs preserve lands and protect them and only hunt in season. Doesn’t mean there isn’t something obscene about feckers with big guns posing in front of the murdered remains of the planet’s dwindling megafauna.

Yep reeks of low self esteem

But hey sooner that money go to conservation than buying the latest red fast convertible…

Yeah. But even so, all the outrage over stuff like this, though I entirely understand, is a bit off. Poaching’s the real problem. If allowing horrible creeps to blast away at a few aging elephants finances more and more protection and conservation, then that’s the devil’s deal and I’m not going to look down on them for taking it.

I did some classes on this in college. As much as I don’t see the appeal, you’re right big game hunting (legally!) can help fund protection programmes and ultimately allow the survival of near endangered species.

It’s not dissimilar to the need to cull and control deer to ensure populations don’t become too large and exhaust their food. The food is used here by the hunters but over there I think it’s offered to any locals who want it
At least their similar in so far as from the outside it looks cruel and is opposed by badly educated zealots or people who just want to be outraged
