Not a Shinner but The Daily Mail headline is a wee bit disingenuous. The report says that they are not a threat in either state. One would think that there’s an election coming up and Sinn Fein are doing well in the polls.

That’s tellin’ us :) Yet they’ve managed to keep the Daily Mail boardroom men-only, not that any healthy woman would want to steep herself in their misogyny and cellulite papping.

    1. Oh Dear

Yep. Because that’s the ONLY reason why they would want to make sure the terrorists had actually retired.

And not the IRA-related murders that had occurred recently.

Jaysus wept. A regular politician can’t scratch themselves without being vilified in public. Sinn Fein are involved in murders and covering up child abuse and *they* get portrayed as the victims.

Nonsense – the Mail is doing a good thing here.

If SF want to make genuine strides ahead & avoid this sort of publicity they will need to completely separate themselves from the IRA & (probably more sinister) associated pseudo-paramilitary criminality.

I’m inclined to dislike the Mail but they have lead on a number of important stories over the last year & often with less prevarication/deference than the other media outlets.

‘Cause Mary Lou & SF generally have been doing s nice job of letting Gerry suck up all the flak for the less savoury sides of SF, while grooming a new generation of potential leaders.

The Mail, it seems, are confronting this head on.

“If SF want to make genuine strides ahead”

Bollocks Cluster. You just don’t want a Left government. You don’t give a toss about the IRA.

The IRA story got legs because of what the PSNI said up north, that they were active. This being said when the south was saying there’s nothing to see here

….and now that’s a conspiracy of the south to keep SF down in the elections.

You gotta love the conspiracy theorists in SF and their attempts to play victims.

Fupp off with your nonsense, there’s no conspiracy, just a very dodgy political party.

I don’t see that any of the other main parties are averse to using propaganda, using your standards we should also examine the role of FF and FG in not pursuing church paedophiles for example

      1. Neilo

PIRA/Sinn Féin are verifiably up to their necks in the direction of murder and the tacit endorsement of child sexual abuse in 2015. I don’t know how active non-shooty, kiddy-fiddly political parties were in moving Brendan Smith around from diocese to diocese during the 1970s and 1980: that one’s on the church.

        1. Deluded

There was tacit endorsement of systemic brutalising of children, Neilo, under successive FF and FG governments, with government inspectors reporting beatings, rape and humiliation. Are you being wilfully ignorant?
I’m not here to excuse SF of anything, but you are dismissing decades of deliberate and focused dehumanising of the unwanted as isolated aberrations.

          1. Neilo

@ Delduded: would never dismiss that dismal history at all – it’s just that I love an open goal and PIRA/Sinn Féin bring out the cheeky devil in me.

        1. salmon eile

That was my point. I don’t see the reason to demonise one set of propagandists and not the others

  3. Woof

What exactly has Sinn Féin done in the Dáil that the IRA has told it to do? I can’t think of anything.

    1. Neilo

I’m not privy to the management style of the IRA Army Council but I know that any party with a direct line to same is not entirely trustworthy.

        1. Neilo

Indeed. It’s the nature of politics: we outsource our dirty work to elected officials then complain that it wasn’t what we wanted.

      1. Clampers Outside!

        No.

You must prove they’re interfering. You must accept on faith they are not, because the party has worked so hard at telling the truth on a subject… for at least the last two minutes.

Now, what subject was that… it wasn’t water rates, they’ve shown their double standards there.

It wasn’t kiddy fiddlers being let loose, they’ve u-turned on that AFTER they were caught lying with absolute out and out determination.

Oh I know, they didn’t lie after that about protecting kiddy fiddlers and rapists. They just won’t give details. That must be it.

I’d say Mary Lou is due a hissy fit in the Dáil, lord knows the scumbags in SF need a distraction from them being seen as the scumbags they are.

  4. mauriac

candidate selection in SF shows them to be undemocratic .add that to the reported behaviour of councillors in Dublin who operate as avatars for a shady figure in the public gallery and their other problems and you get a suspicious party to say the least.

    1. Mr. T.

You could say that about Fianna Fail and Fine Gael. Their candidates are always pre-determined and their wealthy friends control the TDs actions in the Dail. Worse still, many do the bidding of overseas states and businesses.
