Bus shelter and other ads like this are allowed, I think. Kevin Humphreys beat her to it a couple of weeks ago.

humphreys himself dropped off a leaflet at my house the other day and then just kept walking instead of trying to talk. personality of a wet sponge.

‘Vote No. 1’ but just ‘Vote 2 Eoghan Murphy’

Also, being a bus-stop, wouldn’t a web address or QR code be useful where a potential voter could check out Kate’s policies and track record?

      1. Spaghetti Hoop

        *chuckles*
Seriously though – shouldn’t the electorate be encouraged to vote for reasons other than pretty faces?

          1. Cup of tea anyone?

I am sure it is out there somewhere but I would love a simple diagram of what everyone promised last time, and their success rate of achieving their goals.
That way I can decide who to vote on not just by the lies they spew out but by the likely hood of them actually keeping their promises.

          2. Saint Paul

What about a cute pet competition for aspiring pols? Saint Paul thinks that’s about the right pitch for the general level of discourse here

If we clubbed together we could hire one fairly reasonably. Just fill it with Broadsheet in-jokes.

It’s better with the pearls. I mean, she clearly has a look, she should embrace it. But also definitely get a little hat.

  3. ahyeah

I wasn’t inclined to consider voting for Kate until the last bit – “It’s your choice” really got me thinking. Kate’s right. It is my choice.

    Seriously Broadsheet?

You KNOW that this is a non-issue because paying for adspace rather than flyposting has featured about 5 times before so really this is a dig at Parties We Don’t Like getting election material out there.

However , you’ll happily feature pictures of Anne Marie’s thinly veiled election posters that are plastered on lampposts all over the place in at least 3 different posts.

Bias and agendas are one thing, hypocrisy is quite another. You are as bad as all the media outlets you piously complain about.

    1. MoyestWithExcitement

Yes, this post on Broadsheet is really going to seriously influence the national political narrative against the government. Are you *in* FG?

          1. MoyestWithExcitement

Well I hope I’m not dampening the fire in Rotide’s loins anyway, the sexy, misguided beast.

    2. ahjayzis

Do you really see BS as a media outlet with a duty to be unbiased?

I see it more like a blog. It has a political agenda and that’s fine by me. And not just because it closely matches my own, if it didn’t I’d go elsewhere for my procrastiposting. I wouldn’t join and demand they represent my viewpoint – why should they? I don’t even let them advertise to me :op

      1. rotide

I don’t really have a problem with them being biased (Although I originally started visiting this site for the non political stuff, because that didn’t seem to the focus in the early days).

It’s when the bias becomes so all encompassing that nearly every post is pushing the agenda I start to have a problem. When the double standards become so transparent as in this case (the only reason to publish this submission was to get a dig at the government for something that this publication promoted for someone else) the trust level falls to such an extent that it devalues everything else that broadsheet purports to stand for.

Broadsheet’s name itself paints itself as somewhat journalistic. Someone in there has done a fair amount of work the odd time collating the timelines they do. The last thing that someone doing that work would want is the impression that it is devalued because It’s entirely possible that anything that didn’t fit the narrative that they’re pushing would be dropped or omitted. This is exactly the charge that is levelled at the indo and I’m struggling to see the difference here.

        1. Caroline

Now children, if you believe in Broadsheet’s integrity, we must all clap very loudly so that rotide’s trust levels will rise again!

Funny this comes the same day as that McNally post. I mean, does anyone know any woman under the age of 70 with hair like that?

  6. Steve

Don’t know either women o’connell or McNally…but it’s interesting that BS published a response piece by McNally complaining about perceived sexism in politics, but the comments above are loaded with sexist comments about KOC’s hair/appearance in general.

Seems that if they are part of government parties everything is fair game on BS.

I agree with rotide the hypocrisy of BS and some commenters is sometimes astounding. But anyway I wonder will McNally jump on this comments section to defend her fellow female electoral candidate against the comments about her appearance?

    1. Caroline

Why wouldn’t we comment on her appearance. I mean she factually looks deranged. That’s always worth noting. The thing is she’s strangled herself trying to achieve the nauseating primness McNally claims is demanded of all politicians, and women in particular. You’d need a heart of stone not to laugh.

      1. MoyestWithExcitement

This is a common “tactic” among social conservatives. It’s like over in the states where right wingers will call out black people for using the n word and refer to anyone who calls out racism as a racist themselves. Basically ‘I know you are but what am I?’

          1. MoyestWithExcitement

Except there isn’t any sexism. You’re just sore that “The Right” has been accused of sexism so you want to accuse the “The Left” of it and you’re so desperate to do that, you’ll take an incident where there isn’t any sexism and call it so because it’s a right wing politician who’s being ridiculed here.

          2. Steve

I get it…Your one of those commenters who keeps going and must have the last say even it means arguing black is white. Dragging in some right vs left wing crap also helps to muddy the water.

If BS published a photo of Marie Lou or Catherine murphy or whoever and people started slating their appearance you would probably be the first to jump in with your accusations of sexism etc.

          3. MoyestWithExcitement

“Your one of those commenters who keeps going and must have the last say even it means arguing black is white.”

You mean like you’re doing right now when it’s explained to you that there isn’t any sexism in the thread and you’re STILL responding? Good lad.

          4. Mikeyfex

Moyest, no matter who you argue with, you still come out of it even worse than before. It’s quite a skill, whether you’re right or wrong.

          5. MoyestWithExcitement

Careful now. Keep that up and I might actually start paying attention to. I mean, someone should like…

          6. Mikeyfex

Hah, go on. We don’t all crave the level of attention you seek, and fewer crave your personal attention. Neither seems like that much fun.

      2. Paul

I see a woman with a dodgy hairstyle but also a woman who is not desperate enough to flash her breasts or flesh for attention . Of course the lefties view that this as not keeping it real.

Is this the place to remind ye that there is regular commentary on the appearance of the Healy Ray clan or the inability of some FGers to wear a suit “correctly”

And don’t let’s get started on the brown shoes thing

If Donie Cassidy is available for free kicks
    Then so is this ‘wan

    Equality
    Don’t ye recognise it yet?

    1. ahjayzis

I’m so glad someone brought up Donie Cassidy!
Wigwatch was my only reason to tune into Oireachtas Report back in the day ^_^

The hair style recalls that of the ladies in Rebellion-an attempt to make us align Fine Gael candidates with our glorious past?

  9. irishstu

Mary Mitchell-O’Connor was going door-to-door in our estate MONTHS ago reminded people how great she was. Then she blocked me on Twitter so that’s that I suppose. I wonder if she comes back if I’ll be able to talk to her, or will I be phased out of her existence like that time with Ensign Ro and Geordie were in a transporter malfunction so I can see here but she can’t see me.
