Homeless charity You’re Not Alone distributing food and drinks in Dublin last night

You’re Not Alone writes:

“[Last night] we looked after 158 of our homeless friends. It was bitterly cold but at least it was not raining we had seven new volunteers so far this week which is great to see as, even with the weather getting bad, the number of people wanting to help is still increasing. A big thanks to everybody who helps and supports us – as without you all, we really would not be able to help the homeless as much as we do”

Out of the 158, for at least 1 of them, that may have been their only bit of grub that day. Well done YNA.
Soup looks delish too. Chicken? Mushroom?

Often wondered where the Farmbake cakes were baked. Every shop, supermarket and filling station seems to have them stocked pile high.

Well done to the YNA people for their good deeds.

Or that they eat it all in one go. Fruit, crisps, cakes etc can be carried around until you are hungry later.

Aye, never underestimate the caloric punch of cake when you’re on both shanks’ mare and your uppers. Great initiative, great result: let’s hope for an early drop in the client numbers.

So what? They’ve left their whole lives behind. They’re running away from certain death. They have barely more freedom here than prisoners. And you’re going to begrudge them a packet of crisps? You plank.

???? Homeless Irish people have left their lives behind?? Running away from certain death? Who’s trying to kill them? Barely more freedom than prisoners? What are you talking about?
I work full time and barely have enough to buy food myself after I pay tax’s, mortgage, bills, property tax etc… I would of loved some hot soup, a cake and packet of crisps yesterday.

Fair enough. My bad. I had refugees in my head.

“I work full time and barely have enough to buy food myself after I pay tax’s, mortgage, bills, property tax etc”

          So? This isn’t about you.

“I would of loved some hot soup, a cake and packet of crisps yesterday.”

Maybe you can pretend to be homeless and ask one of the volunteers for a dictionary. Seriously, I don’t get how grown adults cannot tell the difference between ‘of’ and ‘have’. I mean, if you weren’t paying attention enough to learn what an oxbow lake is, grand but not having basic English is fupping baffling.

          1. Trev

            would of
            could of
            should of
Of of of of of of of
Seriously, being a grammar nazi is always a last ditch attempt for someone who is trying to regain the higher ground. This is the internet, its not as if i’m writing a novel or getting paid to write articles. Get over yourself.

“being a grammar nazi is always a last ditch attempt for someone who is trying to regain the higher ground”

Yeah, usually. This time though it’s just a brief aside to your insane, self entitled whining about homeless people getting sandwiches.

          3. Trev

Its also funny that you say I don’t have basic English, yet you are the one who cannot tell the difference between a homeless person and a refugee.

          4. meadowlark

            Wow Trev. Great comeback.

To be fair to Moyest, your comments make you sound entitled, immature and ignorant. Ten years ago you might have been justified in your comments but now there are a lot more homeless and the reasons are more varied thanks to austerity.

And how about you learn how to make a decent veg soup and bring it to your full time job? Or make some muffins. You have the means, so why not?
Unless you’re just here to bash those less fortunate for availing of services which are designed to help them…

          5. Clampers Outside!

My tuppence, on using ‘of’ instead of ‘have’……

If you cannot be bothered to even speak or type, what kind of thought is anyone going to believe you give to anything else….. little thought.
