        Absolutely Anoman…
A despicable disgrace what occurs in this country to defenceless animals.
It’s top of my priority list when encountering candidates.
No government funding for any rescue charity (& it’s the smaller less known charities doing unbelievable good work) Yet 1million euros spent by government to put down stray horses…nothing for prosecutions, legislation or saving dogs/horses in abject suffering.

Because you seemed to shrug your shoulders and say ‘not my problem’ when the refugee issue came up last year.

“Their own fault for crossing the Med in those boats” was your general tone.

Dogs trust encourage/condone puppy farming by taking out ads on donedeal and letting that site which is ground zero for animal cruelty use Dogs Trust to pay lip service to animal welfare.

They also cherry pick the most rehomeable dogs from pounds, refuse to take in rescues or surrenders, and then try and blow their own trumpets over how they dont put any dogs to sleep. Pretty easy to do that when you dont take in sick, old, or injured dogs.

Rehoming/rescuing any dogs is good but theyre the Niall Mellon of animal charities

It’s true I’ve heard similar stories, including the fact that they apparently do put down dogs who are not in perfect health despite their saying “we never put a healthy dog down”. The dog has to be in peak condition for this to apply, or so I’ve heard.

I don’t. I’m going on things I’ve heard from numerous people. And I’m aware that they are rumours and may well have been exaggerated. But it’s an animal charity, and I’ve never heard anything negative about DSPCA or DAR, so why do rumours circulate about Dog’s Trust?

Animal rights just aren’t sexy enough. It’s upsetting. Sweden has zero stray dogs, they adopt ours. We’re doing something wrong.

I don’t think animal rights are more or less important than the homeless situation, or human rights. Just don’t think we should have to choose.

  3. Cup of tea anyone?

laws around animal welfare are shocking in this country. You can literal swing a dog by its lead, smashing it against the ground in a public place and face little or no consequences.
There should be jail time and a lifetime ban from owning animals if you are convicted of animal crualty.
