A Matter Of Conscience

Then.

The Bill does not legislate for termination in cases of fatal foetal abnormalities. The Government has argued that it is only obliged to deal with the issues that relate to the European Convention, the implementing of the A, B and C judgment and the X case and that it is not obligated to go any further.

Obligated by whom or what? Why is this an issue for another day? It may be for another day in light of political strategy and tactics. I do not agree that it is for another day in light of ethical considerations and international human rights obligations.

Then Senator Katherine Zappone, during the seanad debate on the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill, 2013.

Now.

Children’s Minister Katherine Zappone says she wishes her fellow Independent Ministers hadn’t insisted on a free vote on abortion.
Mick Wallace’s bill has caused a rift in Cabinet, with Independent Ministers including Shane Ross and Finian McGrath, due to vote against the rest of the government later when they support the “fatal foetal abnormalities” bill.
Minister Zappone, regrets that her fellow Independent Cabinet Ministers have refused to side with the Government on abortion.

“A matter of conscience”?? This woman has clearly demonstrated that she has no conscience, none whatever. In fairness I don’t single her out for this charge – she has plenty of company amongst “the great and the good” and our political Mastera who insult us by styling themselves as ‘servants’. Dishonest, discredited – traitors all.

I did! There was a fairly crap selection in my area and I heard her on the radio one morning and thought she sounded terribly nice so said to meself “Why not?”. Now I know why not.
Though I still wouldn’t vote for Paul Murphy.

Maybe she feels that it’s more important to have a functioning government than have it fall apart over a bill that isn’t going to pass anyway?

    1. ahjayzis

In what way is this a functioning government bar the drawing down of salaries?

We’ve had no legislation passed for the guts of a year. Func

It is willful negligence. Week after week of row-backs and gibberish emanating from their gilded gobs. Can anyone give me a member of this government who has put a really big foot forward on any pertinent issues of the day? Aside from what I read on Daly, Wallace or the bold Murphys fighting their fights, who else? And who cut out Shane Ross’ tongue?

“Why is this an issue for another day? It may be for another day in light of political strategy and tactics.”

Please please please let *someone* who interviews her put those words to her.

Cheers Zappone, from the many LGBT women and straight female allies who enthusiastically campaigned and voted for marriage equality because they believe in a government’s moral obligation to stand up for human rights even if they are a minority issue.

Once a nun always a nun?

So, she wrestled with her conscience and she won?

A truly impressive feat perfected by our political class.

It’s actually depressing to see how many politicians who seem to have the public interest at heart when in opposition will flip-flop immediately once they’re in a position of power. Are there any of them who live up to their principles once they’re in a ruling government? (Roisin Shortall as junior health minister excepted.)

What happens to them when they get in there? It feels like they go through some sort of re-education programme before they’re loosed again on the public.

“What happens to them when they get in there? It feels like they go through some sort of re-education programme before they’re loosed again on the public.”

Nothing happens to them, no morals,no conscience,no sanctions, they just love the money .
Zappone is just one of many.

Katherine you have disappointed so much, I really didn’t think you would be one of the spineless flip-flop politicians who changed their fundamental beliefs based on a pay-check. FUPP YOU VERY MUCH.

Standing up the LGBT? You have got to be joking! The night of the Marriage Ref she even managed to turn that into her usual ME ME ME event! She asked her WIFE to marry her knowing that they had been married for years. That woman is an attention seeking Parasite. A real Mefeiner in every sense of the word.

We’ve voted in a bunch of independents to try to bring about some sort of change here. The rest of the Eurozone is lurching to the far right in their quest for change and reform. That’s what will happen here if we don’t get results from the current batch.

This doll is FG, through and through same as the other so-called independent Mary Louise O Donnell . FGers put party first.

Zappone in photo looks like she is singing, she obviously does a dance routine cause from her latest performances in the Dail, she has some very smart moves.
