A demonstration by Daniel Pelletier, of the frankly outrageous 166x ‘dynamic fine zoom’ range (4000mm focal length) of the Nikon P900.

We begin in a car park in Quebec. We end on the surface of the moon.

At the moon landings I was. So see the little moon buggies I did, and continued to ride around on them after Buzz left.

Jerry Alderton, the unsung hero of the moon landings, who is still up there. Well known fact himself and Collins drew straws after they realized they miscalculated fuel consumption and would not make it back with 4 people. Couldn’t leave Armstrong or Aldrin behind or there’d be uproar as they were household names. So Alderton drew the short straw and was left behind, all that’s left is that stupid Man on the Moon moniker (nice song though, R.E.M. knew the story). True story brah…..which I may have made up (except the R.E.M. part).

I am wondering why this is so surprising. While I admit the quality of the lenses and software is almost certainly better, I have a JVC MiniDV Digital video camera with 35x optical zoom and 800x digital zoom. I did much the same thing from my back garden years ago.

Biggest problem was shake at the highest magnification, as my tripod was crap.

And no, I did not see the moon landing sights wither, but then at this distance I would not expect to.
