It’s 09:36am, Coldplay tickets on sale less than an hour – resale tickets. Can you explain @TicketmasterIre #ticketmaster #coldplay pic.twitter.com/omsyG49d3N

Don’t think of it as having failed to get a #Coldplay ticket. You’ve just consciously uncoupled yourself from the gig.

Popular band sell out venue in double quick time shock.
Ticketmaster being money grabbing swine shock.
How is Seatwave legal?
The problem is that the act KNOW that the tickets are actually worth more than they’re selling them for. That isn’t a value judgement on the quality of the music but rather a calculation based on number of tickets which can be sold and estimated demand.
The promoter and the band have done the sums and work out how much the gig SHOULD net, and syphon off tickets to be sold over the face value.
a face value of €400 will never look good.
so then the act/promoter, before tickets go on sale, arranges that x% go on general sale and y% go to secondary market where act and promoter make more.
Ticketmaster is part of the problem but not the root cause. there was a channel 4 Dispatches documentary about this around time of the last Coldplay tour
http://blogs.thisismoney.co.uk/2012/02/last-night-channel-4s-dispatches-revealed-that-reselling-website-viagogo-has-been-allocated-9000-tickets-for-coldplays-20.html
Is that what they do? (Allegedly) That’s messed up.
Will there not be another date announced? Doesn’t that often happen?
Cheers Ivan… will look for that.
I dunno but ticket brokering is hard to defend. Bring back queues!
The 9:36am is irrelevant. You missed the tickets it sold out. The fact ticketmaster openly tout tickets at any time is the problem.
The problem is really that people listen to Coldplay.
I can never understand people who sneer at other people’s music tastes. Mind your own business.
The time is relevant in a way. Ticketmaster describe Seatwave as a service for fans to sell their tickets due to not being able to make the gig. All these tickets for sale on Seatwave at 9:36 implies that hundreds (perhaps thousands) of people bought tickets some time since 9:00am, and in those 36 minutes suddenly realised that they won’t be able to make the gig after all. In reality, the tickets on Seatwave never even went on sale to the general public. Scumb4gs!
yup. there’s definite misrepresentation as to bona fides in all this. Ticketmaster facilitate but they don’t drive it…
How many tickets did the seller to retain to sell via seatwave?
Any chance this will being investigated, not on your nelly!
With a musical repertoire that has all the appeal of a beige Confirmation suit, I’m really gutted I missed out on these Coldplay tickets.
You obviously don’t know who coldplay are.
Are they that grindingly-tedious band with the offensively bland singer?
Oh I think he knows full well who they are. They should have called it a day after the album. They are an even more bland Oasis.
First album, I mean.
How DARE Coldplay make music that other people enjoy.
I too look forward to the day that all music is Mayav approved and lesser forms of the art are banned.
Sorry for offending you, sir. I shall keep my opinions to myself henceforth if it pleases sir.
did you see them close the Paralympic games in 2012…no? ….thought so!
Not a major fan myself but they put on a show!
Like Michael McIntyre puts on a show?
t’aint just coldplay tho, it’s every act that sells their tickets through ticketb@st@rd. I was trying to get tickets for elbow this morning but a 55 quid ticket is now 120 on sh1tewave now.
I got an email about that: February, is it? I saw them in the ambassador a few years ago. I love them but didn’t enjoy it as.. You know what? I’ve just remembered why. I was driving so didn’t drink. You need to wet the aul whistle to enjoy a concert. Well, I do.

Wow it’s the Adventure of a Lifetime
Seatwave is owned by Ticketmaster http://www.seatwave.ie/info/aboutus. Surely this is just Ticketmaster making sure that they extract as much coin as possible from the fans? They are a business after all. I don’t like it, but surely its all legit.
+1
…if this was Rio who would be rounded up first?… Ticketmaster?…GAA?…Promoter?…Garth?
It is legit but law may change soon

just as an aside, like, it took 23 minutes for 15000 coach and entry Glastonbury tickets to sell yesterday.
5 times that in around the same time here? don’t think so. 75000 never went on general sale
Seatwave
In any other country such a practice would be illegal
Bodger and Co can we start a campaign against this?
I think it’s fairly common, pretty sure it happens in the States too
It’s annoying and immoral, if not illegal, but if you got rid of Seatwave, surely they’d just jack up the ticket prices across the board so they’d take in the same money?
Accepting it’s inevitable, and aware of the fact that there are probably limits to the transparency you can force on a business, it would still be better if they admitted there were a limited number of economy tickets for sale, and when they’re gone it’s only premium from there on in. Still weeing on us but sparing us the indignity of the “it’s raining” routine.
Good point.
In any other country such a practice would be illegal
Except of course it operates in other countries and isn’t illegal.
While there’s obviously no defending this sort of moneygrab, you need to calm down on the ridiculous hyperbole and engage brain before posting.
“engage brain before posting”
That was not very nice now, was it. He didn’t say anything offensive about you or anyone.
Yea – welcome to the Planet of the Apes who inhabit this thing daily, like a lost tribe of old blind sheepdogs running into things and howling at the luminescence

I got bored in the 10 seconds it took to load those pages.
They need to drop the pretence and adopt the airline model. Yes, Ryanair/AerLingus/BA etc might advertise a return flight for €39.99 including taxes, but rarely, if ever do you get it at that price.
That said, I wish TicketBa$tard and their Seatwave touts a rake of kidney infections and I hope every time they wee, it burns them like acid.
Yes, the thought of some mild pain in their pee pees is quite soothing. It almost feels like they are laughing at us. They have to know everyone is aware of what they are doing.
Yup; the Rolling Stones have experimented with a model not unlike that in the States.

coldplay suck and croke park sucks as a live venue as the sound sucks. suck it and see for yourself
Christ, it’s a gig, who cares what it costs to go? If you can’t afford or don’t get a ticket it’s hardly the end of the world. This is just like that moron FG senator complaining about not getting a GAA final ticket.
It’s not like its a medical procedure or live saving drugs.
Why does Coldplay owe people the right to attend their gigs at a set low price? Why is an event promoter not entitled to maximize the amount they make from an event?
something something ticketmaster capitalism evil something
Can’t we all just lie down on the ground and wait for the crushing embrace of our master, Death?
