Not a consensus. A suggestion, more like.

It shouldn’t matter but Londonderry drives me NUTS. I’m irrationally angry that it came up on my autocorrect.

I’ve another one. Looking at the build up to this afternoons match between Galway and Wexford. What did RTE show when they were showing W chords path, by beating Kilkenny? Footage from a Tipperary/Kilkenny match.

Want another one? Premier tickets for today’s Mach printed with Kilkenny versus Galway.
    I joke you not.

Eh, aren’t both Derry and Londonderry equally correct? Its pretty much the same as saying either Dublin or Baile Átha Cliath. People will understand where you mean, thats the most important thing.

The difference there is Queenstown is incredibly generic, and not in common usage in the modern day. ie its completely different to Londonderry on both fronts

If you say “Londonderry” to an average person in the UK/Ireland they’ll know where you’re talking about, just as they would if you said Derry. Thats why its equally valid – its equal utility.

It just seems completely petty and unnecessary to care that much about it to anyone whos not a rabid Republican Nordie.

My granny and grandma live in Derry. Been there a lot and know it well Zappone. Nobody calls it Londonderry not even the unionists. It’s Derry. Londonderry is a political statement used in official/ public statements. So catch yerself on hai

Yeah it’s not like Sackville Street / O’Connell street, because Sackville isn’t that generic and everyone knows what you mean when you say it.

Or how if you ask someone to meet you at the Viceregal Lodge your partner will totally know.

In fairness if we don’t want it to be Londonderry we should have flattened the walls back in the 1600’s and butchered the population when James II was pishing around the country, but we didn’t and here we are 400+yrs later, griping.

I know you’d struggle to believe it when you see me first thing on a Monday morning but I wasn’t even born 400 years ago.

I used the collective “we” – to cover the Irish people from this day back to the nbig bang, where I’m sure here was some sort of schism causing problems back then…

republican filth, oh please bring back our glorious queen so we can line up in our blushirts and fall to our knees in supplication….
