Camperdown Wildlife Centre in Dundee, Scotland has been closed to give its 10 lion-tailed macaques the opportunity to mourn the loss of a troop member.
You may find this hard to believe
But monkeys need time off to grieve
So shutting a zoo
Is the smart thing to do
To give the poor creatures reprieve

That’s a very nice thing to do. The more we learn about the animals we share this earth with, the better we’ll be able to respect them.
Or rather, in an ideal world that’s how it would go.
In this world we get Drumpf
We’re the only species stupid enough to claim him as one of our own.
We bring these things on ourselves.
Finally, the study of emotional intelligence in animals is getting some respectability.
On a practical level, if you keep the macaques’ stress to a minimum, they’ll last longer. On a humane level, it’s about feckin’ time.
