Irish viewers have expressed anger at the pronunciation of Irish place names by the character Casey on Netflix coming-of-age drama ‘Atypical’.

Atypical pronunciation
Is the cause of much online frustration
Between you and me
One should not say “Ath-ee”
When seeking a standing ovation

I’m sure if we have to do it in front of camera we’ll do 5 seconds of research on Google to make sure we’re pronouncing it right.

Why would you do 5 seconds of pronunciation research when you’re playing a character who very likely wouldn’t? Sounds like very inauthentic acting techniques Mr Selleck.

ah now….this is not a bad little series…yes a bit over-sweet in spots & certain aspects like their lifestyle don’t remotely calculate for me (maybe I missed the bit where they inherited a rake of money from somewhere) but dacent entertainment so long as you’re not expecting a documentary on Autism

I saw that part being referred to, it was quite a horrific pronunciation (Siri would have done a much better job) nobody Irish amongst the floor staff clearly

She’s playing an American character, not an Irish one. The average American wouldn’t know the correct pronunciation, so if anything this is very accurate acting.
