This morning’s Irish Daily Mail
‘We can’t link the deaths to their living situation, but it was possibly a contributory factor.
For a family living in emergency accommodation, it is very stressful and distressful. To have a tragedy like this, it compounds their distress.
It’s intolerable. This family on compassionate grounds should be given a council house.’
Fr Peter McVerry on the homeless mother who gave birth to stillborn twins in a Dublin hotel and then carried her them to a Dublin hospital. The mother-of-three has been living in emergency accommodation for a year.

Jesus. That’s grim.
It’s to be expected under a government who believe “the market” and their vulture fund mates will help homeless families..

Cries of defeat and stress is becoming the norm. It’s shameful.
tragic, but she was ina Hotel. Help was available.
McVerry is turning this into a political football, shame on him.
Her children died. Show a bit of respect there dan .
Dan’s type are devoid of respect.
BS please delete this comment and hopefully you will ban this clown and all his names.
Tasteless doesn’t begin to describe that comment.
My goodness you’re a dullard.
Forever demanding BS bans people whose views you don’t agree with.
Here’s a tip petal – get a life.
Not Ollie’s though.
He probably doesn’t have much of a one to speak of.
Still born deliveries can be very quick. Poor family.
You’re a true humanitarian dan, well done.
How horrible. The poor mother.
RIP little ones.
I can’t imagine the anguish in that hotel room, a Father and 3 other children witnessing ,and sharing, that heart-break.That poor, poor woman. New horrors nearly every day attributable to the laughingly termed “housing policy”.
Well said.
This coud happen to anyone anywhere, the Hotel room is not the issue. That’s my point.
I don’t know why you’re getting grief for being disrespectful in that comment when dav’s getting a bunch of +1s for saying it’s to be expected.
Well the other comment was assigning blame to an inept government. Dan was blaming the mother, which is really adding insult to injury.
Ok, I don’t read that in his comment but I’m not looking to derail the thread so I’ll leave it at that. Cheers dylad.
“Dan was blaming the mother”
Really? Don’t remember that happening, you really haven’t a clue
@Dan
That is not an argument for today
Too Soon
is the expression here
Please, an expectant mother lost twins
Try and summon some compassion, tolerance and patience
Would you ever cop on. Giving birth in a room with three kids and then the babies to be born dead, no privacy, no dignity, but it’s not an issue for you? Why the hell would it be, you’re not the woman. It’s an issue for her.
I suppose deflection is a self defense mechanism but in my mind someone who looks around for excuses in a situation like that, who can’t feel empathy for that poor woman and her family, has issues.
Those children will remember that experience for the rest of their lives and will probably need counselling. Peter McVerry was 100% correct in highlighting it. An absolutely appalling situation and a new low.
You know what stress does to a pregnancy? Malnutrition? You know how hard twins is on a woman’s body?
This is utterly tragic. How is this any different to what went on in our Magdalene Laundry days? Pregnant women shunned by society again and again.
My God! That is a tragic story, very grim for the housing situation in Dublin. It should not be happening
