A no deal Brexit is Sinn Féin’s wet dream.

Personally I find northerners, in the main, lacking in soft social skills, meaning down right ignorant and rude. And, a united Ireland will result in aka Newry and Mourne, even more dodgy planned three story ‘bungalows’ being spread all over the island.

Usually painted white, just to blend in.

    1. BTBarnham

Personally I find 3rd generation free staters lack sleeves on their jackets, lack any nuance when describing the North of this tiny Island ..but waffle how their the true children of rounders and An fungitown when it’s relevant.. partition away there SQw

      1. SOQ

        Yes actually I was.

Anyways, I meant that despite the claims of not wanting a hard Brexit, there are certain elements within republicanism who just like the Brexiteers, are in favour of it which is the same reckless ideology in reverse.

There are marked differences between ROI and NI peoples and the chaos of a hard Brexit will only be matched by a rushed unification of the island without proper preparation. Just look at what is going on within the SDLP for example. Better?

I’ve just been to see the Marie Colvin (Sunday Times) movie, “A Private War”.

There was a real journalist who walked the walk to portray real humanity from terrible events. She paid with her life.

What a contrast between that lady and the aull’ wan valley of the twitching curtains no-hoper pettiness of Mark Tighe’s Sunday Times story. I tried to think of a new name for him but all the good four-letter descriptions are already taken. What a bag of major lady parts.

      1. Johnny

-give your specs a quick rub there oul fella, lead story on front page ST duh, need help with anything else today?

      2. Yep

Scroll back up you lazy female dog.

And it is a big story. Disappointing from SDs. If you are putting forward a candidate for that purpose you should ensure the worst aspects can’t stick to your candidate.

          1. Yep

Well we can discuss the agenda behind publishing it but it doesn’t take away from the fact an opportunity was given to do so.

What may have been a political ploy or a genuine attempt at having an elected spokesperson now damages the appearance of the party and asylum seekers.

        1. Frilly Keane

          I know
          It’s a really shabby story
          And IMO
Doesn’t deserve the prominence the ST lauded it with

But that the Social Democrats didn’t undertake simple everyday Due Diligence is a heartbreaker for me

How da’ púc can Catherine and Roisin take to the floor again to shred cosy contracts and iffy tender awards on the basis of incomplete and unsatisfactory Due Diligence checks

          Due Diligence failures all ’round

          1. Dub Spot

Due diligence? How would they get such information unless it was leaked by the authorities in Ireland to their boozebros in the media? This is not like looking up the CRO to see if the accountants did their job. Give.Me.A.Fupping.Break.

          2. Frilly Keane

If you don’t think anyone seeking a party nomination onto a ballot sheet doesn’t deserve even the most meague of simple checks by the party

            Well then

            That’s on you

  3. Giggidygoo

So Owen Keegan, himself a top gamer, weighs in to provide cover for Yoghan Murphy, and in the meantime Vacron doing his best to alienate and blame everyone but himself for the children’s hospital debacle. Vacron and his saying of the week – low-balling!
And all political cover provided by the no-baller, Micky Martin.

RTE lead story this Sunday is about US aid piling up on Venezuelan border (yes, we’re being dragged back to this story half a world away).

Express lead story this Sunday is about EU Food Aid and the fury on the part of Brits about the EU trying to intimidate the UK again with Project Fear.

What ties this two stories together?

The UN has warned that aid not be used as a political weapon. They were specifically referring to US/Venezuela. RTE fails to mention the UN position in its pro-US coverage. What a shower of CIA shills.

Here’s the UN warning which a free press would have included, even on the periphery of its reporting.

Property developer investor Denis O’Brien is planning to develop extend his Malt House building on Grand Canal Quay in Dublin, adding more floors to create another 15,000 square feet of office space. It’s a €20 million development investment. The Sunday Times reports there’s been a planning application by Jepview Limited, a consultancy “linked to” O’Brien.

“The chief executive of BAM Ireland, the builder of the €1.73bn national children’s hospital, gave the taoiseach a 6pm ultimatum last Wednesday to exempt publicly the company from a criticism he had made in the Dail…The Cork businessman said BAM was prepared to consider “all its options” if the taoiseach did not make a public statement exempting his company from his criticism.” reports the Sunday Times

Ultimatums? 6pm? The taoiseach of the country? WTF does BAM think it is.

    1. Giggidygoo

Probably was on the lines ‘unless you publically exempt BAM from your comments we will publically hand you the opportunity to re-tender and hand you the keys to the building site.’

    2. Ron

Varadkar probably thought the Myers Briggs Indicator Test he took 20 years ago, the one that told him he had Leadership Traits was good enough to go head to head with experienced CEO’s. He was very public and excited about those test results in his public blog that did the rounds last year. If i remember correctly he stated in his blog that the test just confirmed what he already knew. Sure hasn’t he based his whole career on it.

Whatever I think personally about BAM and their role in this NCH scandal, the reality is they are shrewd experienced businessmen. Something Varadkar or Harris are not and will never be. I’m sure BAM and others were only salivating at the mouth doing the mental arithmetic on margins and profit as it dawned on them they were dealing with the most incompetent, incapable, inexperienced, and inept duo of Varadkar and Harris. There has never been anyone more incapable then the two of these men in the history of Dail Eireann.

He was very quickly put back in his box by BAM because they know they have the Varadkar and his band of merry Muppets by the short and curlies in relation to the contract. They build it; They profit. They Walk Away; They Profit! What a deal they negotiated and the ink was probably dry for days before the team of daw daws representing the taxpayer managed to catch up in their head to what they had actually agreed too. It’s an absolute shambles. A litany of incompetence and ineptitude. A direct consequence of the lack of any type of leadership ability by Varadkar and Harris.

And Brexit will be the exact same. Mark my words, frame that copy of yesterday’s Indo, the one where Merkel is putting Varadkar in his place regarding the hard border. Varadkar knows better then anyone that we are now seeing him rightfully become public enemy No 1. His media stooges can no longer control the narrative with Social Media, where he is the most hated Taoiseach of all time. Europe is the only place he can go to ensure his survival when this freak show of a Government finally ends and he will sell this country out to keep the EU decision makers happy.

    3. Termagant

They think they are who they are, which is an entity holding serious cards in a major public fiasco

  7. Eoin

Any good in other libel news? Pat Kenny is considering taking legal action after mocked up photos of him with a black eye and fake reports of him being arrested appeared online. This follows that splash a month ago of Miriam O’Callaghan about to take legal action against Facebook for faked stories and false ads. What ties these stories together? Neither has actually taken any legal action yet. How come? Too expensive and risky?

    1. Eoin

Should be said Pat’s been a victim of the fake advertisers (just like Miriam). What product have they got Pat (falsely) endorsing? Yep, erectile dysfunction.

    2. Dub Spot

In fairness, the PR agents thought it was good copy. And Miriam’s presidential ambitions are in tatters after #Primetime #transgate.

  8. Eoin

What’s the story with Roisin Burke at the SBP? The last byline I can find for her is four weeks old. Is she on holidays? There’s been an exodus at the SBP, Kehoe, Lyons, Horgan-Jones. Roisin is a good solid journalist. Anyone?

          1. rotide

I assumed the same thing but the Ollie persona was witty and sharp, whereas the Eoin pwersona is dull boring and longwinded. I haven’t bothered to go back and look at Ollies posts and compare them to Eoins but I just assumed they were the same guy due to the amount of posts on the papers slot.

    1. Clampers Outside!

I think this thread of all the gullibles is funnier…

A society overcome/overrun with “victimhood culture” accepts accusations at face value, in this case a hoaxed ‘hate-crime’, and due process is ignored while the mob/celebs/politicians slavers to be seen as protectors of the “victim” and decry a non-event as an example of a dreamt up problem of imagined epidemic proportions…. ie, hysteria.

A feckin’ ridiculous state of affairs.

        1. Clampers Outside!

Jaysus…. your one track myopic mind is showing pet…

Or… frothing at the mouth from some head melting hysterics. You know like those memes of some keyboard warrior losing it…. I’m sure you get the picture by now.

Thanks for the laugh, and a look at the clear predisposition to a particular bias in your thinking!
And… that’s me break over… back out to that patio.

          1. Clampers Outside!

Actually… I’ll take that back… It’s a colloquialism, from my Da, relating to lasooing :)

        2. Nigel

Ah, the way you’re slavering over one outlier as statistically significant in an effort to bolster your stupid ‘victim culture’ narrative. Also, the way you did over the Ian Huntley thing. You slaver a lot. Nice job high-fiving over a supposed hoax with a climate change denier and a Q-tip, too, that’s nicely ironic.

          1. Northern Pole Cats

One Outlier? If only it were true Nigel.

          4. millie st murderlark

I must say the ‘Nigella’ thing you’re so fond of wheeling out leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. It’s immature. I’ve heard my kid use similar as an insult. She’s five.

          5. Clampers Outside!

It makes sense because the user is not a bloke, and I do believe this to be the case.
            Sorry ’bout the taste.

( I did stop using “y’all” when you made a similar remark on my use of that…. Can’t win ’em all Millie :) )

          6. millie st murderlark

I do know your reasons, and I don’t mean to swoop in telling you to stop, necessarily, it was more of an aside than anything else.

I do find it immature and childish but then there’s a lot round these parts that I’d call immature and petty, including myself at times.

          7. Clampers Outside!

True… now, let’s get off the internet, new series Traitors just started on Channel 4 :)

          8. Nigel

Rationalise it all you like doesn’t make it one but less ironic. Also, it shows exactly where you’re coming from.

          9. Nigel

Oooh, the guy who supported the Republican presidential candidate, the party that started the second Iraq War, has something to say about warmongers.

          10. Clampers Outside!

But you might have supported someone that once was in the same room as him, so there!

            It’s Nigelogicial ! :)

          11. Northern Pole Cats

If you’re banging on about warmongers are you going to mention Barry ‘The Drone President’ Hussein Obama and his blood-lusty Secretary of State Hillary ‘ISIS’ Clinton?

What they allowed to happen in Libya for instance – turning it from a successful, prosperous, functional society into the central market for the contemporary slave trade.

Nobody likes the Bushes, now or then.

By contrast Trump is ending wars – Korea, Syria, Afghanistan.

          12. Clampers Outside!

Not true, seeing f_lawless below has clarified things, and I have no reason to doubt him, I’ll take it that I am incorrect in my belief and will no longer call you lass nor Nigella.

            There ya are now.

          13. f_lawless

I can vouch for Nigel. We know each other through a mutual friend, so you’re barking up the wrong tree there Clampers.

            @Northern Pole Cats
“By contrast Trump is ending wars – Korea, Syria, Afghanistan.”
But what about his warmongering with Venezuela, Iran, Russia (via NATO troops on Russian border), military escalations with China in the South China sea, colluding with Saudis in Yemen, his remarks on Libya – “the mistake we made was that we didn’t cut a deal to get half their oil, ..to the victors the spoils” , etc.
Seems to me Trump is only anti war when costs start to escalate for not enough perceived gain

          14. Clampers Outside!

Thank you for setting me straight on that f_lawless. An honest belief that I held was incorrect, now corrected.

NYT does deep dive into homosexuality and the Catholic Church in America.

‘Fewer than about 10 priests in the United States have dared to come out publicly. But gay men likely make up at least 30 to 40 percent of the American Catholic clergy, according to dozens of estimates from gay priests themselves and researchers. Some priests say the number is closer to 75 percent. One priest in Wisconsin said he assumed every priest is gay unless he knows for a fact he is not. A priest in Florida put it this way: “A third are gay, a third are straight, and a third don’t know what the hell they are.”

‘Studies repeatedly find there to be no connection between being gay and abusing children. And yet prominent bishops have singled out gay priests as the root of the problem, and right-wing media organizations attack what they have called the church’s “homosexual subculture,” “lavender mafia,” or “gay cabal.”

New book by French journalist know as Sodoma, with keep this in the news-actual tittle is:
‘In the Closet of the Vatican: Power, Homosexuality, Hypocrisy by Frédéric Martel‘

    1. SOQ

When I came out in the mid 80’s I was asked more than once if I was going to become a priest. The inference was that if you were not going to get hetro married then you gave your life to God. So there is your reason. Gay men were assimilated into the church as a means of preventing them from ‘sinning’ but also, it was better to have them on the inside peeing out than on the outside peeing in.

Not long after, I met a guy in a bar who turned out to be a priest and he brought me back to rectory where he asked me to stay over and meet the other priests in the morning. Such was the openness. I lost all faith, if that is the right word, in the Catholic Church after that.

A more humorous story is where a priest threw a party and those who remained over night decided to play a joke on him. When he arrived in to say mass next morning, about 20 gays were sitting in the very front row of the church, just to wind him up.

Then there is the infamous Incognito sauna story in Dublin where a priest took a heart attack and another two were on hand to give him the last rights. Most people were shocked but I certainly was not. .

Priests are supposed to be celibrate but if some of them were picked up many more times, they’d be growing handles. They do not believe what they preach, they deserve all they get.

      1. Johnny

Bruno who is gay reviewed Sodoma and had this to say…
‘But I’m bothered and even a little scared. Whatever Martel’s intent, “In the Closet of the Vatican” may be less a constructive reckoning than a stockpile of ammunition for militant right-wing Catholics who already itch to conduct a witch hunt for gay priests, many of whom are exemplary — and chaste — servants of the church. Those same Catholics oppose sensible and necessary reforms, and will point to the book’s revelations as proof that the church is already too permissive and has lost its dignity and its way.‘
        The Vatican’s Gay Overlords -NYT.

Oh thanks for over sharing -that’s a joke by the way :)

        1. SOQ

The militant right-wing Catholics are right. Any priest who is not celibrate should receive the back end of a door. Except in this day and age, who or what will replace them?

I got lost in Armagh City yesterday. Drove around the Cathedral three times while being shouted at by voices in American and English accents from Google Maps who kept arguing with each other. But the scale of that building is breath taking, especially at a time when people were dirt poor.

          Says it all.

  10. Frilly Keane

    Like feckin seriously?

    Ah here
    I’d go on
    But wtf should I
If all that’s going to happen is ye tailoring what I post just to make ye’re pals look better

    1. rotide

      Eh,,, what?

Jesus, be it through deleted posts or certain posters endlessly ‘just posing questiosn’ to some commenters just being completely insane (not you vanessa), it’s nearly impossible to actually understand whats going on here.
