The local authority said capacity has been sourced at three additional locations to replace the beds closing in Brú and there will be an overall increase in the number of available beds.

Those currently sleeping in the hostel, which is used on a “one-night only” basis, will be accommodated in new facilities.

It is understood that not all of the replacement beds will be available immediately and not all are based in the city centre.

Can’t pretend I’m not happy about this. I’ve genuine sympathy for anyone sleeping, But the amount of ambulance and garda outside this place on a weekly basis I’m glad to see the back of it.

Why would they do that? Unless you mean homeless from those counties, then of course that’s where they should be.

Its a great idea if its a choice but forcing homeless out of Dublin is a bit extreme.

Where will the 100 or so who regularly attend there go?

Those sleeping rough need more than a bed for the night ; they need an address so they can avail of necessary services to include medical services, they need one in order to enter education or job market. Any one of us could be homeless one day. We don’t see homeless as people anymore. Last year I came across a man who looked like he had been beaten up lying near the canal. I knelt down and asked him to sit on the seat beside me and helped him up. He had emigrated in his youth and found closed doors on returning home. He said it was ‘his fault’ – I got us a cuppa and sandwich chatted and asked if he would like help from Simon etc. He said it was safer on streets. He was coherent and fully engaged. Poor man had been one of those that built Britain. He doesn’t deserve to be on streets. And he needs more services. I rang Simon, they knew him. I rang the Gardai to ask hero eye out for him as station nearby. I don’t know if they did.
