Brooding, Film Noir 1970s Cork! Muted colours, coal smog & Cortinas…
Name those front six jammers (pic 2), anyone?

One of the oldest silent movies of Cork City, now in colour and with added sound!

right: Ford Capri, Toyota Corolla, (a very hidden but possibly bootlid of an Audi 80), Ford Escort
That’s not a Dolomite, it’s a FIAT 124 (no Cortinas but the Capri is close…)
Early Fiat 128 I think.
Paddy Barry’s Corner
One time
Dunno what it is now
Just out of curiosity
Which corner is Paddy Barry’s ?
Gallagher’s bar (Rory’s Granny’s place I believe) is still here on the corner of bridge street and McCurtain street which you can still see
There is an off-licence on the coburg street side at the minute (no .21 or something like that) opposite the pharmacy.
The left turn from patricks hill to McCurtain street is a subway and spice route Indian
Thanks
Where what you’ve called Gallaghers is
The opposite side, corner with Patricks Hill was a News Agents/ old school tobacconists that then got divided up and was part chipper – cant remember for sure, I’ll have to ask the Dad
But that Gallaghers was definitely Paddy Barry’s for most of its life
Cork teams on the open top, back in the days when we had In a Row after our name, would make a point of taking that corner (even though ‘twas a one way) when they came back with the cup
And they could be seen then from the top of Bridge Street as they made their way down to the Examiner office balcony
Renault 12 (white car across the junction) brings me back. My Aunt had one, and gave it to my brother. The doors were rusting away, so he pop riveted the paint to the inner panel :-)
I also once owned a corolla similar to that in the photo – same colour too. Great car. Traded it up for a Toyota Carina, but have always missed the Corolla :-)
