This afternoon.
Newbridge, County Kildare.
Drive-in HSE rona testing centre.
Meanwhile…
The number of new infections reported yesterday was 66, down considerably on the 200 cases cited on Saturday.
A significant reduction in outbreaks and community transmission was recorded last night.
As of 8pm last night, there were 19 patients with Covid-19 being treated in hospital. 8 of these patients are in intensive care.
A further 136 people who are suspected of having the virus are also in hospital, with 7 of these patients in ICU.

Ok so 4 new hospital admittance but no new ICU and thankfully- no fatalities.
Something has just occurred to me about fatalities- is it possible that over the duration of this thing the treatment protocols have changed? I mean the medics really were learning on the hoof in the early days.
Also- suspected cases- is this just awaiting test results or is there another reason why they are suspected but cannot be confirmed?
…maybe they’ve taken your advice and are treating everyone with hocuspocusquinine…
I think you would be right to surmise that the method of treating Covid-19, and all its accompanying complications, has been evolving on an ongoing basis. It’s been a very steep learning curve. Hopefully to the benefit of those who are now finding themselves in Covid wards and ICUs.
Positive tests are not cases.
Older cohort in nursing homes who were unwell are dead.
Alive older folk are shielding more.
Positives rising in younger cohort due to more mixing but less fatality or hospitalisations.
But lets keep wearing masks like we did at the height of the pandemic in March….
That guy has scuba googles on. Mad stuff really.
Huge amount of testing with people returning to work.
I had a test 2 weeks ago and I have to go for ANOTHER one this week.
Insurance companies are insisting on it I think.
Ah- that explains a lot.
I was wondering why people were queuing to get tested at this stage.
Problem is- the test is not for the actual virus and if you already had it- you may still flag as positive.
Yeah. And it’s an absolute biatch. Feels like they’re scraping your brain!
