Sinn Féin president Mary Lou McDonald

This afternoon.

Meanwhile…

…Catherine Murphy, co-leader of the Social Democrats, said:

“The resignation of Minister Calleary is symptomatic of the contradictory messaging and widespread confusion that has followed Tuesday’s announcement of new restrictions.

The days following the announcement have been characterised by a bizarre television appearance by the Minister for Health and clarification after clarification from various Government departments.

“Since the Dáil went into recess at the end of July, the Government has lurched from one crisis to the next. We have had three counties in lockdown for the past fortnight and it now looks likely that the Cabinet will act on NPHET’s recommendation to extend localised restrictions in Kildare for another two weeks.

“The events of the past 24 hours highlight the need for all relevant Government ministers to come into the Dáil and clearly explain what the strategy is for dealing with this crisis.”

The resignation had nothing to do with contradictory messaging. It has to do with Dara Calleary not caring about following the rules. He was not confused.

it’s about the entire state apparatus not caring about following the rules

just look at that attendee list….you’re looking at the entire state apparatus (the real one) there in one room…the political, the banking, the media etc.

this is beyond disaster and I predict there’s a very strong chance this stoopid could pull the state down

You would swear from RTE Radio 1 that Labour is the only party in opposition. Today Aodhan (morning) & Alan (lunchtime) were both interviewed for comment. Labour have 6 seats, Soc Dems also have 6, SPBP have 5 and SF have …37!

But Catherine and Mary Lou are part of the problem too. Inane statements but no action. It’s always the same. Used to admire Catherine, now I think she’s a dope.
