Ah here.

This afternoon

South Dublin city.

A mobile billboard calling for the reopening of pubs that do not serve food and targeting the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste for their handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Commissioned by ‘Monaghan Publicans for Common Sense’.

Not to be confused with that ‘Monaghan Publicans for Inanity’ mob

They don’t really have the same type of pub; the same number of pubs; or the same pub culture in the rest of Europe though.

I was in a town in the South of France with a population 46,000 that has 2 pubs (both Irish). Westport for example has 4,660. First page of 3 pages of google map results shows 23 pubs.

“They don’t really have the same type of pub; the same number of pubs; or the same pub culture in the rest of Europe though.”

what’s the difference, in epidemic terms? what’s the difference between a bar that serves food, and one that does not?

Surely more pubs means that fewer people will be congregating in each pub?

Is the core problem that so many older folk tend to spend a lot of time in pubs, especially in rural pubs, hence the concern the hospital admission rate could rocket if opened?

Have you been in an Irish pub and a pub in France? The difference should be immediately obvious.

The higher number pubs in Ireland is a reflection of demand. The small number of pubs in other places reflects the lack of demand, those pubs aren’t any more crowded.

The food issue isn’t all that hard to understand. The number of people going out for a meal is much smaller than the number who would be going out if all pubs were open and were allowed to serve alcohol without food. The current rules significantly reduce social contacts.

It is not about direct comparison between two pubs considered in isolation it is about the cumulative impact of millions of social interactions in every part of the country.

Ah here, its hardly a hoax.

Their reaction has been heavy handed, to say the least.
You’d wonder if their target for 0 deaths is motivated by election prospects – FFG both enjoy quite a sizeable share of the grey vote – the same group at most risk of the ‘rona.

To open up the economy and relax restrictions would put more of these people at risk, which is bad for their re-election prospects

Not after their performance in March and April when they sent many older people to their death.

If that is the best the vintners can do god love them

Maybe when covid 19 spreads through the schools the publicans might have grounds to sue the ass off this government but that depends if any survive

Meanwhile supermarkets garages and off licences are off loading vast quantities of cheap booze for the house party scene and drinking at home

No drinking pubs are open but the numbers Of covid just get bigger and bigger

If alcohol is fuelling it just ban the sale of it and prosecute all drinking in public

We are talking a health crises

Meanwhile 25% of those Called in for a covid. 19 test are not turning up

This people are being called for a test for obvious reasons and if that is the case we have ticking time bombs walking about and nothing is being done about them but the real villain is the demon alcohol

Mary lous time is coming and she knows it
Never seen any politician smile so much as this lot are walking the nation into a zombie apocalypse
