Release The Hounds

at

Taoiseach Micheál Martin during an interview with CNN in his office last week

Excellent.

This morning.

Details of the government’s ‘medium term Covid-19 plan’ is due to be published tomorrow,

It will set out ‘five levels of the virus’ and related restrictions that will apply across the country for the next six to nine months.

Via RTÉ

It is understood it is possible that Dublin could be placed on a higher level of the plan due to the prevalence of the disease in the capital.

It is expected that the Government will adopt the National Public Health Emergency Team’s recommendation further limiting visitors to homes in the capital.

That would mean only allowing six people from two households rather than three.

Tomorrow’s plan is also set to provide for a return of spectators to matches, with 500 allowed at club level and 5,000 for a large stadium like Croke Park….

Meanwhile…

…Gardaí are increasing high visibility patrols in Dublin as part of the efforts to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

Over the last week, 57% of the new coronavirus cases in the country occurred in Dublin.

To support the public health guidelines and regulations, Deputy Garda Commissioner for Policing and Security John Twomey, said gardaí will be carrying out increased high visibility patrols – across the city and county – with a focus on social distancing, gatherings in large groups and compliance with the use of face coverings.

Man they are clueless. I wouldn’t say its over frank but they way they are at it it never will be. Christ.

So I can’t have 7 friends or family in my house but I can go to Croker with 4,999 strangers. This is just nonsense now. I won’t be sticking to these rules and the consensus of opinion amongst my peers is the same. They can all go to hell now.

Agree with ya, nor will I or the most of my friends.

Although I did have friends cancel plans to meet up this weekend, because of Ronan’s warning on Friday.

Each to their own I suppose. Some folks just feel safer following the guidelines. Gotta respect that too.

that’s exactly how I feel, I’m probably going to get called a Nazi in a minute but this pandemic is NOT being handled in a coherent or logical way by a long shot, I have zero confidence moving forward there’s any way put of this pooshow any time soon

      1. Micko

Tis a total pooshow alright Janet

As I mentioned above, most of my friends are not into this stuff at all, but a large number of them are complying with everything as they are concerned about being called out publicly or shamed on social media if they don’t.

        Bit worrying…

I see no problem in questioning the train wreck that is the current government and its responses.

Martin is shaping up to be the worst Taoiseach we’ve ever had and Donnelly is just clueless.

I make all my Covid related decisions like my early adoption of mask wearing from observation of international sources. I wouldn’t take Donnellys advice on anything, ever.

This could all have been somewhat contained and some semblance of normality resumed but Martin HAD to be Taoiseach. That was his sole concern, everything else came second and here we are.

So I can’t have 7 friends or family in my house but I can go to Croker with 4,999 strangers.
Unless your house it the same size as Croke Park (and mostly outdoor) your comparison is moot.

      8 people in a 32sq m sitting room = 4 sq m each (indoors)
5,000 people in a 25,000 sq m stadium (this is just land-area, it ignores the multiple tiers) = 5sq m each (outdoors)

While you may not agree with the restrictions – there is a level of consistency.

      1. Micko

While your numbers are correct I’m sure Cian

And how do the 5K enter Croker? Where do they queue?

6 main turnstile entrances into Croker – with 800 odd at each standing 2 mts apart?

Seems like a bit of a mess.

          1. bisted

…they intended to let 5k into Doncaster races (4 days) last week but had to abandon plans after one day…not because of behaviour inside the event but because of difficulty with the crowd arriving and leaving…

      2. GiggidyGoo

Or professional rugby players Cian – up close and personal, breathing and snorting on each other in the scrum, ruck or whatever, with perhaps 32 different families involved. Sure what could go wrong?

        1. Cian

          I’m not defending running rugby or not;

I’m pointing out there isn’t a massive difference between 5000 people in an open-air stadium and 8 people in your sitting room.

        2. ReproBertie

The IRFU has been testing players and staff since mid June. Munster and Ulster both had positive results and the players were quarantined while close contacts were tested and isolated.

They can be “up close and personal, breathing and snorting on each other in the scrum, ruck or whatever” as much as they like when the test results are giving them the all clear.
