Meanwhile, In Berlin

at

This morning.

Berlin, Germany.

Several thousand people have gathered near the Reichstag, banging pans and blowing whistles, to protest Chancellor Angela Merkel and the German government’s push to enforce coronavirus restrictions.

Germany’s lower and upper houses of parliament are due to pass laws this afternoon which could allow the government to impose restrictions on social contact, rules on mask-wearing, drinking alcohol in public, shutting shops and stopping sports events.

Meanwhile…

    “prominent extremists”, “holocaust deniers”…?

    nonsense

just a fun day out for families and elderly with giddiness and glee galore

    1. Jimmy TwoShoes

Yeah if you would have given me 100 quid I would never have guessed those two cohorts would be there!

    2. Janet, dreams of a steamed clootie

I don’t understand how anyone can deny the holocaust, it’s not like there’s no evidence

      1. Oro

Where there’s a will there’s a way! I think that’s the basic pathology of most hoax pushers, alongside ofc the crucial fake confirmation Twitter or YouTube links that you can find for almost any totally untruthful idea. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the anti-mask anti-vax commenters on here have dipped their toes into the Holocaust denial stuff. Once radicalized online in one subject why not all.

I wish they’d use water cannon on Extinction Rebellion.
Some of those bath-dodging tree-huggers stink to the highest heavens.
Boris had the right idea buying three from the Germans when he was Mayor of London but sadly they never got put to good use.

was hoping for Drown the Clown for Boris

and then when it’s Patel’s turn, we could chant Drench the Wench

Yeah, some not very nice people in that crowd alright – Hitler banners etc. Yikes

Alternatively, did anyone see Dispatches on Channel 4 on Mon night?

    Good watch here – https://www.channel4.com/programmes/lockdown-chaos

Basically, it goes through how the UK has made a mess of this whole thing.
They put an undercover reporter in a testing facility in Northern Ireland – shocking stuff.

Corrupt dealings giving contracts worth millions to kmown dodgy UK companies, the testing system is in a shambles, completely unscientific methods being used for testing, cross-contamination all over the place, people who need results not getting them, illegal procedures being used.

Everyone asks “why would governments lock us down and ruin the economy?”

Looking like it’s to line their own pockets – what a surprise!

They intentionally removed the tender process so they can give multi-million euro contracts to their pals.

      1. Micko

        I know shocking right!

You should watch that dispatches episode Nige, might answer some of your questions.

        1. Nigel

About the UK making a mess of the pandemic response while at the same time taking an axe to their economy? Why crush whatever sparks of joy and hope I have left?

          1. Micko

Coz it would answer the question you and others have asked here before “why would governments crush the economy?”

Turns out the answer is money.

          2. Nigel

Responding badly to the pandemic because they’re corrupt and incompetent is simply the Tories applying the same model they’re using in Brexit, so that’s an answer to a question nobody really needed to ask. Why responding to to a pandemic is IN ORDER to crash an economy as opposed to IN ORDER to protect public health is a different question entirely.

“Everyone asks “why would governments lock us down and ruin the economy?”

Looking like it’s to line their own pockets – what a surprise!”

      – that’s stupid, because it completely ignores all the industries, many of whom give loads of money to the Tory party (for example, commercial property industry) who are losing money hand-over-fist due to the pandemic.

        1. Rob_G

No I didn’t. Does it explain why the UK government* would arbitrarily decide to benefit some of the Tory party’s backers by screwing over a load of other Tory backers?

*though of course for this particular conspiracy to work, every government in the world (apart from Sweden) would need to be in on the plot

          1. Micko

Not a conspiracy, not at all.

It’s a massive cash grab and a situation being perpetuated so they can continue to go to the bank with tax payers money.

You really should watch it. The same is happening here I believe.

          2. Rob_G

what you are implying is the definition of a conspiracy; one that would require the involvement of every government in the world, no less.

          3. Nigel

Disaster capitalists acting opportunistically and with impunity and benefitting from politicsl cronyism in a crisis is nothing new.

          4. Micko

Sorry Nigel, I didn’t realise you were only interested in crimes and issues that are novel and new

            “My wife has been murdered!”

“Ello ello, calm down sir, murder has been going on forever – it’s nothing new”

            ;p

  4. Junkface

The usual groups like AfD racists and Qanon morons turning up from all areas. The Berlin polizei usually do a pretty good job of diffusing these situations. I wonder will AfD supporters attempt to storm the Reichstag again?

    1. Rob_G

You’re breaking character; try to remember that you are supposed to be an English lush in late middle-years.
