A photo of the original, well-liked, travelers who would call to your house for a kettle of boiling water, or a bowl of sugar, with who you could have a good conversation without any perceived threat.

I wonder what type of photo will be added to this album for the current travelers?

BUT you’d have to paste us ALL with that stick tho Giggidy

when I was growing up in our corrie redbrick in Marino as a child I remember everyone left their front doors open, would be in and out of each others etc.

same across the board, all walks of life

True of course. Different times. The photo is specific to a type of traveller folk who were made welcome (by my family anyway) – I was just musing on some of the folk nowadays. In fact I know and buy floors etc. from settled travellers in Enniscorthy, and a nicer group of people you couldn’t meet. The boyos with the slashooks though –

Great photo. The treatment of traveller children in the 1970s and their forced admission to Trudder House where they were sexually and physically abused was a tragedy which still has intergenerational effects today. Sadly Irish society judged and it seems continues to judge these trauma victims and their descendants at face value only. Perhaps the commenters above need to look a little deeper. Frankly I’m not optimistic that they will.

Please don’t edit this comment, Bodger or Chompsky. The relentless negativity and snideness of many of the commenters on your courageous, decent and sincere posts needs to be highlighted.
