‘Repressive And Dangerous’

at

This afternoon.

International Air Transport Association (IATA) boss Willie Walsh said the Mandatory Hotel Quarantine detention system was “particularly dangerous” for a country like Ireland.

He asked why Ireland was the only country in Europe to impose mandatory quarantine even on vaccinated travellers.

The former Aer Lingus and BA chief said:

“The message is we don’t want people travelling to the country.

“Freedom of movement is a fundamental principal of the EU. That is what has upset me most.

Nobody travelling into the UK from Belgium tested positive yet you are locking them up…

“If these people are vaccinated then these restrictions should be removed. Why do you want to lock up people who have been fully vaccinated?”

Bit odd that we announced yesterday that 40% of our adult population is now vaccinated with one jab.

And in the same day we announced that the restrictions are now extended until November?

The UK was planning their escape from lockdown at the 40% stage and we’re still on the “careful now” buzz with NO plan in sight.

Gov too busy handing out contracts to their pals for kickbacks I think.

Interesting that the NY Times says Ireland is at 29% (not 40%) and the UK at 55%. While the US is at 48% vaccinated and have just lifted the mask mandate nationwide for vaccinated people.

Any travel plan you can point me to? Vaccinated Americans have more rights to travel around the EU than I do.

Your link to the NY Times is showing two different figures.
            * 39/100 vaccination (this is based on all doses and TOTAL population)
            * 29% vaccination (this is based on 1st doses and TOTAL population)

Do you understand the difference? Or do i need to explain it some more?

I knew the look back would be cringe for those who wanted the harsh measures and MHQ etc. Didn’t realise it would be so soon. They are strangely quiet now and unable it seems to address the job losses we are just starting to hear about.

            LOL; you ramble on.
You gave out that you are not listened to.
I answered some of your rambling, which you ignored, but moan that we aren’t answering all of your little questions.
I answered another of your ramblings, which you also ignored, and moan that we haven’t answered your last question.

Maybe you could actually acknowledge when you get it wrong, and people might answer more of your questions.

The quote is not true. If you have a negative PCR test within 72 hours of travel and you are fully vaccinated within the approved timeline there is no mandatory quarantine.

‘If you are fully vaccinated with an approved vaccine and have the documents to prove that, you do not have to complete mandatory hotel quarantine on arrival in Ireland. Any dependents travelling with you, including children, will also be exempted from the requirement to complete mandatory hotel quarantine’

“Freedom of movement is a fundamental principal of the EU. That is what has upset me most.”

What a bunch of BS, the only thing this lad is upset about is the hit to his profits and the decrease in shareholder value.

      +1 ROFL

While I am quite partial to the four fundamental freedoms of the EU myself, Willie’s dross is a crock of poo.

“That is what has upset me the most”. Jeez, not even subtle BS.

+ 2 the ”that’s what has upset me most” is utterly laughable. A bit like the Vintners spouting on about ”community” or ”mental health”.

His profits? What the f u p p are you on about?

Walsh no longer works for IAG, also he is one of the most honourable men you will evwr meet

    1. Cian

He is director general of the International Air Transport Association.
So worried for ALL their profits
