God these whingers absolutely KILL me. I’ve lived in and around Dun Laoghaire my whole life and it’s been a long while since I’ve seen (parts of) it look so good. The pedestrianisation of part of George’s St has been a success in my view, and definitely increased footfall to that part of the town. The murals are a lovely addition. I suppose you’re never going to please everyone though. I’d say Conan Kennedy is great crack at parties :@/

Ah! I am only from down the road. Great idea – actually one of these former business premises has been turned into a private home. They made a great job. We need to encourage more people to do this.

As for conankwrites, a quick look at this Twitter confirms him as a nasty piece of far right work. Usual hateful creep. Best ignored and not platformed.

    1. Micko

I think that mural looks nice alright. Dun Laoghaire is an odd place with some strange folks, so any change there is welcome.

I had a quick look through that chaps Twitter feed there.

Could you point to the content that you thought made him “far-right” in your eyes?

      1. andrew

What kind of people do you consider to be “strange”? And why?

I thought you were all about everyone making own calls in life and doing their own thing without being judged by others?

(*even when it involves going contrary to fundamental science with respect to a child’s health)

        1. Micko

DL is a weird mix of very affluent people and very poor people, some with substance abuse issues.

It’s an odd mix with strange people.

          Question answered Jungleman?

          Good stuff.

          1. andrew

Not the question I asked you, Micko.

Didn’t ask about the demographic make-up of the place, I asked why do you consider some of the people there to be “strange”.

Should I infer from your response that it’s “very poor people, some with substance abuse issues” that you consider to be strange? Specifically, is it their poverty or their addiction that perturbs you?

Note: you can’t answer this without highlighting your hypocrisy, so perhaps best not to answer or do so with a glib dismissal. Or maybe one of your pals could jump in with an ad hominem attack?

          2. Micko

            Yer waffling there buddy.

Come here though – while I have ya.
Why do you care so much about Ireland. You’re from England right? Not an Irish bone in your body you said the other day.

I see you had the Bloodstock festival there the weekend. A few metalhead mates went over.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCdIa2Z59Os

How many thousands were at that then? And how many were at Latitude in July? Or Tom Jones up North the other day?

            Antigen tests accepted there yeah?
            Self reporting yeah?
Treating people like grown ups yeah?

            I bet you hate it…

Why don’t you clean your own backyard first before crapping on ours.

          3. andrew

And in what way am I “crapping on” anything?

I came on here because I am impressed and envious about Ireland’s vaccination programme and wanted to find out more. That’s all. When I did, I was really taken aback by the anti-vaxx sentiment on this website, which, initially, I mistook for a more general indication of sentiment. I’m happy to see that’s not the case.

The situation in the UK is deplorable. Primarily due to an awful PM and awful government. If I was you, I’d be careful what you wish for. if you would like what the UK is doing to happen in Ireland. I know you won’t agree but your government is doing a really good job on this front.

          4. Micko

“I came on here because I am impressed and envious about Ireland’s vaccination programme and wanted to find out more.”

            Rubbish.. utter rubbish. Ye waffler.

Can you point me to any UK sites you’re commenting on there as well “Andrew”.

Ye know, cleaning your own backyard first.

          5. andrew

            “Rubbish.. utter rubbish”

Not sure what you are insinuating, Micko. Feel free to cast an accusation though, strange little man.

            “Ye waffler.”

Quite ironic that you of all people would accuse someone else of waffling.

          6. Micko

And yet you still argue with me.

I thought you were a smarty.

Anyway, it’s glaring obvious that you’re Boxy.

            Good luck “Andrew”

          7. Bitnboxy

What is with the nonsense about everyone accusing everyone else of having multiple usernames when they’re on the ropes! There is only one Boxy. No idea who Andrew is. I could not be bothered having multiple accounts on a failing site. Oh, and I work!

            Load of Bullpoo.

            Sheesh!

          8. andrew

            I’m not arguing. Are you?

And, no, I am not the person you accuse me of covertly (and perhaps dishonestly) being. My real name is actually Andrew. I am an immunologist from the Hertfordshire side of Harlow. I am 37 years of age, male, single, no children (thinking of getting a cat but undecided).

          9. Slave to the Rhythm

lol, weird how as Charger’s output diminished, Micko’s went up though, all the same.
            I preferred his older stuff…

  3. Frank

They would have better spent their effort, time and money preserving the facade of those beautiful shopfronts.

The front of ‘Laundry and Dry Cleaning Store’ is an absolute disgrace and one would wonder how signage so inappropriate could be permitted??????????????

    1. J9

Indeed Frank – some of the shop fronts are a disgrace – as is the way some of the architecture has been allowed to fall into disrepair and dereliction by the owners, most of which are private businesses – I can think of one or two in particular. It’s a shame they aren’t doing both, but in my opinion, the 14 murals painted throughout the town are great addition, as is the new public space at Myrtle Square.

  4. missred

I’m more delighted by the day at all these beautiful pieces of art on my walks down to Dun Laoghaire. The town was empty for so long and I love seeing it get some attention it needed. That Conan Kennedy sounds like an awful moaner

  5. D-troll

i love these murials. ever go to those trashy amusement parks (think courtown, tramore, bundoran) and there are art pictures on the rides, maybe a woman in bikini with a snake. like something from the 70s.

  6. Jdawgs

In a sense the mural is fine but I don’t think it should be there. There is some beautiful houses and architecture in the town although I know a lot of it has been sullied by cheap shop fronts and decay and bad planning but filling the town with a hodge podge of cheery thinking it makes good art or good sense is an awful idea and shouldn’t happen. Some idiot might as well come along and paint a smiley face on the building beside it. It’s still graffiti.
