Philip Nolan, Chair of NPHET’s Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group

This afternoon.

Speaking on RTÉ’s News at One, Philip Nolan said: “We’re fortunate with our very high level of vaccinations and frankly the very sensible manner in which each and every one of us is taking the precautions, we seem to have come close to suppressing what is a very transmissible virus.”

…In relation to lifting the remaining restrictions by 22 October, Prof Nolan said “we’re in a good place” and “there’s nothing in the numbers at the moment, that would change the advice that NPHET would have given Government towards the end of August”.

He said the incidence has not gone up because the very high vaccination rate of adults is protecting children by reducing circulation of the virus

But, but.

Never mind.

    1. Cui Bono?

Why do you think we’ve had more cases and deaths over the last few months compared to the same time period last year?

Do you not think it’s odd considering we have vaccines and more measures this year?

      1. Liam

Delta is the main reason I’d imagine, it’s massively more transmissible than the earlier variants. The lockdowns did a very good job of suppressing the earlier versions, it was practically eliminated last summer and autumn.

        1. Cui Bono?

No, Delta is clearly not much different to other variants according to the data.

The summer sunshine would be the main reason for less cases during summer too.

No, Delta is clearly not much different to other variants according to the data.

What data are you looking at?

You are writing factually incorrect nonsense as usual, or you have an inability to understand freely available scientifically verified information.

Why not take a glance at any of the reputable medical sites that display peer reviewed studies.

          3. Cui Bono?

            @John
I’ve read many peer reviewed scientific studies over the last 2 years from all of the reputable medical journals. I’ve read all sides of the argument but the raw data is best, raw data has no bias or conflicts of interest.

Maybe you should review the raw data for yourself with an open mind.

    1. Cui Bono?

We’ve actually had more cases and deaths over the last few months compared to last year without vaccines and less measures.

      1. Nilbert

Yes, the delta variant was a lot more transmissable and dangerous you see.
Thankfully we did have the vaccines, and we did implement effective measures.
Look at us now, very close to suppressing this horrible virus!

        1. Cui Bono?

No, the Delta variant was no worse than other variants.

Let’s see what happens this winter.

          1. Nilbert

you don’t need to wait until winter to see the impact..

Republic of Ireland adult vaccination rate: 90%

Try again, you are writing factually incorrect nonsense as usual, or you have an inability to understand freely available scientifically verified information.

So just a random comparison between Ireland and a random state in the US is it?

The reason to compare Ireland to Alabama is?

          4. Nilbert

“So just a random comparison between Ireland and a random state in the US is it?

The reason to compare Ireland to Alabama is?”

            You really don’t get it? I don’t beleive that…
The obvious reason is the enormous difference in vaccination rates, and the enormous difference in outcomes. It couldn’t be simpler… unless you were really determined to not see it.

        2. Cui Bono?

Alabama is a completely different place to Ireland. Very different climate and different vulnerable % within the population.

Blatant cherry picking data is a waste of everyone’s time.

          1. Cui Bono?

No, not at all. There’s plenty of data contradicting your argument but you have obviously ignored it.

          2. John

Try, try again, you are continuing to write factually incorrect nonsense , or you have an inability to understand freely available scientifically verified information.

Why not take a glance at any of the reputable medical sites that display peer reviewed studies.
