    (whimsy granted)
but have any of ye on here have knowledge of any family/friends/work/neighbours hospitalised over C19 recently? the last person I know of was November of LAST YEAR

Friend just spent a couple of days in… thought she had C19 due to breathing issues, but turns out it’s likely clot in lung from the booster!

Have there been any age breakdowns of those hospitalised / in ICU?

another thing – the whole issue of closing pubs / nightclubs at midnight. Is the real reason to dramatically reduce the influx of drunks / assaults etc… to A&E’s to ease up on the hospitals who are already creaking anyway from winter ailments?
I don’t for one second believe this will help stop transmission.

    More vaccine denial!
I’m reminded that not so long ago Gemma O’Doherty’s screeds appeared here. Then when her agenda became really embarrassing she was dropped, without any explanation, like a hot potato. Poor Gemma. Now her place has been taken by lower profile, far right anti-vaxxers. The beat goes on.

Stand corrected. Had no idea that Gemma O’Doherty was retro and 2020 — that’s why she’s no longer a fave here? Tough for her when she’s no longer useful to the vaccine deniers at Broadsheet.

I knew a lad who displayed all the symptoms of having eaten in a SuperMacs. They’re similar to COVID. Does that count?

Those posed images of MM are worthy of Leni Riefenstahl (if she had an iPhone).

Saying the vaccine does not work is so dumb! It obviously works. Less people have died in hospital from covid 19 since the role out worldwide. This virus is a moving target unlike any other viruses, it was altered in a lab in Wuhan to be that way. Considering all of that, the top vaccines are really good. Just not Sinovax, its rubbish.

I don’t understand what that means, “all of Ireland caught an airborne disease” because the R0 is 14.28 and the vaccinated adult population is 93%. Can someone explain it?

For example, if the R0 for measles is between 12-18, and the vaccine uptake rate is around 92%, what does that mean?

    1. Cian

You can calculate the % vaccinated using the formula:

      (R0 − 1)/R0 which can be written as 1 –1/R0

If the R0 is 14.28 then the % needed to be vaccinated is 93%

For your measles example a R0 of 12 it is 92%; for 18 it is 94% (so measles needs 92-94% of the total population vaccinated)

Currently Ireland is only 75-76% vaccinated.

I think the tweeter (a) thinks we are 93% vaccinated [which is the adult percentage], and (b) reverse-calculated the R0 that matches 93% to get 14.28, and (c) really doesn’t understand what they are posting.

The adult population is what we started with Cian- and for most, that is far as it is going to go.

        Stop trying to spin it.

“ that is far as it is going to go.”

          Absolutely

Why would you lock your kids into what possibly may be perpetual boosters? For a disease that statistically doesn’t effect them.

I can’t understand why someone would do it to a healthy kid.
