“What Is The Scientific Rationale?”

at

Yesterday.

Dáil Éireann.

Independent Clare TD Michael McNamara challenged the Minister for Justice Helen McEntee on the scientific basis for expanding vaccine passports.

Mr McNamara said:

“We know the vaccinated can efficiently transmit Covid-19, including to vaccinated people. That is the science and is generally accepted. What is the scientific rationale for continuing and expanding vaccination certificates? Is there a shred of evidence for this?

“It appears that there was no evidence in Wales. The matter was discussed in the Welsh Assembly. What evidence does the Government have to do that?

If there is no evidence, why are we doing it other than to deflect blame from a Government that has done nothing to address the capacity issues in our healthcare system?

“There are 95 people on trolleys in Limerick today. Over the past eight weeks, there were 27 outbreaks linked to hospitality, eight in gyms, six in hairdressers and 283 in healthcare settings. One might say the 95 people on trolleys are a result of the upturn in Covid, but that is not the case.

“On the hottest day this year, when there were only 95 people in the entire country in hospital with Covid-19, there were 49 people on trolleys in Limerick. The issue of overcrowding in Limerick is clearly exacerbated by, but not limited to, Covid. I discussed this issue with the Minister, Deputy Simon Harris, when he was Minister for Health. He promised the sun, moon and stars with regard to the elimination of overcrowding. Nothing has been done.

“Instead of dealing with the problems and lack of capacity in our healthcare system, the Government is focusing on increasing outdoor dining in the middle of winter and expanding a vaccine pass for which I have seen no evidence. If I am shown evidence for it I am willing to consider it, but I see none for it. That exemplifies what is wrong with our Covid response in this State and why we are failing.”

“During the first four weeks, South Korea controlled the potential spread of COVID-19 by using high-tech resources like tracking the use of credit cards and checking CCTV footage of confirmed patients.”

      Oh good…

“a 29-year-old patient from Yongin visited several night clubs in Itaewon, a district in Seoul with multiple LGBTQ friendly nightclubs. When the infection spread, homophobic comments were left on CCTV videos of the club in question.[168] The mayor of Seoul threatened to send police to the homes of people who may have been infected,”

      Oh even better…

“Those ordered to self-quarantine are required to download an app that alerts officials if the patient moves out of the quarantine. Violators are fined up to $2,500.”

      Oh even better-er…

“Infected South Koreans are required to go into isolation in government shelters. Their phones and credit card data are used to trace their prior movements and find their contacts”

Seriously man… Staines is an ISAG nutbag.

As usual Michael is asking the right questions- not that he will get any answers of course, because there is none.

There is NO empirical evidence that this ‘papers please’ medical discrimination has the slightest impact on SARS-CoV-2 transmission rates. If there is, then instead of this deceitful carryon, let them make it publicly available for review.

Don’t you understand the severity of this situation? Or is it the case that sniggering up your sleeve is the only thing that matters to you?

        1. Tom J

I do understand the severity of the situation, but it’s people like him and you who don’t seem to understand the severity and talk out of their behinds.

      2. jungleman

SOQ loves a good JAQer like McNamara.

Out of curiosity, do you know all these antivaxxers personally? You have a tendency to refer to them by their first names.

        1. SOQ

I don’t know any anti vaxers- at all.

I do know plenty who have concerns about these experimental gene therapies with no long term safety data however, including two now seeing a neurologist and a cardiologist respectively, after having their ‘safe and effective’ jabs.

          1. SOQ

Obviously I lose a lot of sleep wondering about what people like you think.

I am very experienced in dealing with narcissistic personalities of which this site has its full quota.

          2. jungleman

lol, SOQ, it there was such a thing you alone would fulfil the quota for narcissistic personalities. You are a text-book narcissist.

          3. SOQ

Holding up a mirror to people who’s sole objective is one-upmanship is not narcissism- quiet the opposite.

I hold strong views yes but that is very different to someone who is in it to just get one over- as a couple of idiots on here clearly are.

Paul Cullen compares admissions with covid cases reported ON THE SAME DAY to get his 35 per 1000 figures. But admissions lag about 10 days after cases.
In January cases shot up very steeply. This time we have a slow steady rise. If he compared admissions to cases 10 days ago in both time periods, then this month looks a lot different from January.

What this clearly shows is that it’s cultural behavior. We have a predominately white-trash culture. Our drinking, house parties, drug use, rat lickers etc reflects this. We lack the social elegance and pride other nations enjoy. When was the last time you saw a guy p1ssed drunk wandering around the streets of Rome or Barcelona? Chances are, if you did, it’s a Paddy. We have no class. We read English newspapers, watch their soaps, follow their local soccer teams, chant in English accents on Hill 16, yet like to try and convince ourselves that we are Irish. And while a small number are, for the most part we are fakes, Pound Shop plastic Paddies and our Covid numbers are a result of this.

    1. Micko

      “white-trash”

What’s with all this white trash talk lately?

Ye know, there was a Austrian guy in the 1940’s who wanted to improve white culture and fill it with pride.

      Didn’t end well

      1. Chris

Yes, straight out of the genocidal playbook. Dehumanize the victims to make the atrocities palatable. Anyone who engages in such talk ‘ratlickers’ etc is firmly placing themselves within that category.

    2. Mr.T

“When was the last time you saw a guy p1ssed drunk wandering around the streets of Rome or Barcelona?”
lol have you ever been to Rome or Barcelona? There are beggars, homeless and huge amounts of drunks
      Not to mention the pickpockets.

The idea that Rome and Barcelona are some kind of cultural upper class utopia is absurd – and then the icing on the cake: “And while a small number are, for the most part we are fakes, Pound Shop plastic Paddies and our Covid numbers are a result of this.”

Covid number are down to plastic paddy syndrome? hahahahaa

I agree to a point that there’s an ”ah shure it will be grand, let’s keep having the craic” unfortunate element in the Irish psyche that often drags us down and the love of the ‘cute hoor’ who bends or breaks the rules is another putrid Irish trait and it’s time we truly evolved beyond this gombeen-ism, but I’m not sure speaking as Gaeilge or avoiding the influence of English culture will help much.

  5. E'Matty

Looks like the government only opened the nightclubs as a means to dupe young adults into getting the vaxx. Going by Humphries unbelievable statement that people in the sector should look for work elsewhere, it seems nightclubs won’t be back anytime soon.

    1. SOQ

That is exactly what it was about- because if they had been serious, just like England, they would have opened the clubs during the summer.

Then again, the English took to the streets over the issue, which is yet to happen here of course.

    1. Micko

What are you posting the same stuff again as you did above?

Unless you’d like to place people into isolation in government shelters like South Korea did?

Or perhaps using GPS apps, CCTV and credit card transactions to track people is up your street?

      Oooh govern me harder Daddy…

  6. Optimus Grime

I’ve followed all protocols and gotten all the shots required and encouraged others to do the same. However, given the cases at the moment I think the Government needs to be more transparent on the efficacy of the vaccines in terms of protection. Blaming nightclubs and pubs for ALL of it defies logic to a degree especially in a week where 50,000 were cheek by jowl in the Aviva not once but twice.
