The State stands ready to administer Covid vaccines to primary school children if European regulators approve it, the Taoiseach has said.

Micheál Martin said, however, it was unlikely children in the five to 11 age group will get the jab here before Christmas, given the timeline and logistics involved.

Mr Martin said the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which has since October been evaluating the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine on children aged between five and 11, is expected to issue its recommendation soon – possibly within the next two weeks.

“My view there is that we will then have to go to Niac here but I would support the rollout to children in due course once it’s authorised by the relevant authorities who have the clinical expertise to make that recommendation,” he said.

Pfizer and BioNTech said their Covid-19 vaccine remained 100% effective in children 12 to 15 years old, four months after the second dose.

The companies said that the new data, which involved 2,228 trial participants, will help support their applications for full approval in the United States and worldwide.

No serious safety concerns were observed in individuals with at least six months of follow-up after the second dose.

          Flipping hell Scottser. How sick are you to take that on. You’re going to need an intervention. Bad enough to lose your health with Covid (which many on here believe to be a hoax) but you might lose you mind on the Star Wars (one good film) plop.. take care… see you on the other side..!!

    I thought the state would have given up on this by now. We already knew that healthy children were at no risk from corona, but the logic for vaccinating 12-18 year olds was to “stop the spread”. ie put them at risk in order to protect older people. Which is fairly morally questionable, but at least had _some_ logic to it.

    But now that we have abundant real world evidence that vaccination younger cohorts does very very little to stop the spread of corona, surely theres absolutely no justification for it?

      Over in the US, “babies and toddlers aged 6 months to 5 years” are now in the cross hairs. As the likes of Dr Mike Yeadon have said, there’s simply no benign explanation as to why this is happening.

        I’m surprised you’re not insisting ‘that the unborn babies’ are getting the jab in the womb? Which is it, is all life scared, in which case you must do everything to save a life, and that has to include vaccines, or just whatever sh1t is going through your head that day ?

Long-term safety of COVID-19 vaccine in participants 5 to <12 years of age will be studied in 5 post-authorization safety studies, including a 5-year follow-up study to evaluate long term
    sequelae of post-vaccination myocarditis/pericarditis."

    Great, so 5 POST authorisation studies and a 5 year follow up to assess just how many kids hearts were destroyed by a vaxx for a virus that poses no threat to the kids themselves and doesn’t prevent transmission. Sounds sensible. Any parent going along with this is inviting tragedy into their lives.

    Just remember, to date, risk of myocarditis and pericarditis increases the younger the vaccine recipient.

      1 in 5000 among 12 -18 years olds. Any society that sacrifices it’s young to *protect the old is inherently sick.

      * These treatments offer no actual protection, and actually increase all case mortality by a significant margin.
