He surely is a gobshíte, but my first thought on seeing Zelenski in a tshirt while addressing the US Congress was that he might have underestimated just how conservative and conformist they are.
The imposition of a no fly zone is an ask that the Ukrainian President knows will never happen.
In order to enforce it NATO would not only need to shoot down Russian planes in the skies over Ukraine they would need to strike Russian air defense installations in Belarus and Russia itself, which would escalate matters dramatically.
The Ukrainians know this but are labouring the point anyway. It is a very savvy political move on their part. It is allowing them an excuse to be increasingly critical towards NATO. This sets up a concession they can give to Russia as part of a peace deal that will allow everyone to save face. But will it be enough. Giving up on NATO application is one thing. Giving up on an EU application is quite another and almost equally loathed by Moscow.

To my mind what happened there is that Zelensky, knowing he was on the back foot, tried to aggressively turn the situation to his favour by making over the top demands on his rival, Poroshenko. However, all the bluster didn’t pay off as Poroshenko met his demands and then Zelensky ended up looking shady by going to the private lab of his friend for the test. And then to compound things, an error on the test documents was explained away by an “employee’s nervousness”. Not exactly convincing.
I don’t really care whether he does coke or not.

You need to watch “Ukraine On Fire”. The scenes of protestors & policemen bleeding out, while people, holding steel sheets with sniper bullets zinging off them, try to reach them are a pretty hard watch. You can actually see the pools of blood getting larger by the second as their lives literally drain away but you’re not going to find anything resembling the truth in our corrupt media.
