Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will address a joint sitting of the Oireachtas this morning via video link.

TDs, Senators and 45 foreign diplomats will gather in the Dáil chamber to hear the historic address by Mr Zelensky, whose country has been repelling a Russian invasion for the past six weeks.

He is expected to speak for ten minutes, in an address which is likely to reference what he describes as war crimes in Bucha and other cities which were occupied by Russian forces.

He is also expected to mention his country’s application to join the European Union – something he wants addressed urgently, and which the Government supports.

It is unclear if he will mention his recent address to EU leaders, regarding their level of support for Ukraine – a speech in which he is reported to have said: “Ireland – well practically.

      In all reality I am no fan of zelensky but he is right on this one

        It is a bizarre situation when Zelenskyy and his handlers want Russia booted off the UN council while Russia wants the UN to go into Ukraine, and launch investigations.

        If Russia committed war crimes in Bucha then surely that is the correct way to proceed?

      The teams must go in now and investigate all these allegations
      As far as I know no independent teams have gone in yet to examine all those murdered include forensic autopsies of the victims

            it was in the papers comments this morning. It’s the Russians wanting to do the investigation that the UK blocked as far as I know.

            Some obscure blog made the statement, but didn’t elaborate any further on it. No names or context, so of course it’s being repeated verbatim as gospel by the Putinistas.

            Ah okay. I’m after spreading some fake news accidentally so. I wouldn’t put it past Russia to want to manage the investigation into their own war crimes.

    I’m not sure I’d have time to speak to the rinky-dink Dail (and Seanad – lol!) if I was in the middle of trying to repel a bloodthirsty invader, but fair play to him, no doubt a big boost to the Ukranian refugees here.

    Seeing as all Russia based news providers and many independents are censored and those wanting verified evidence/news (not by the msm.nato/us/eu war cabal) by non aligned parties are left wanting. I don’t believe a word out of Zelenskis mouth (locking up opponents before elections amongst other ‘democratic’ actions). EU “don’t listen to Putins lies, believe us who have censored the internet to protect you from harmful opinion and we’re totally trustworthy even though we’ve been caught telling porkies on multiple occassions”.
    Never seen the like, speeches to the un and multiple parliments emoting horror stories that we’re supose to believe independent investigation free. During covid I had to leave the radio off for 2 years due to wall to wall propaganda all day long. Now this, all day long on the radio, one sided propaganda. Looks like another year of music and no talk programmes.
    Claims of genocide mass murder as a reason to take sides/interfere has tragic echos of Lybia and Syria. How odd that those countries respective populations generally supported those despots who kill and maim them at every opportunity. We are being prepared for some aweful shi*, (it’s amazing what people will accept when fear and horror are introduced into the equation) I’m getting a super quiet generator delivered from Germany next month,not. It runs on hot air and fantasy that so abundant everywhere now. We cannot know for sure what’s going on and wont until the dust settles, I’m reserving my judgement until then.
