Cycling entitlement is responsible for making Dublin roads into ugly, unnavigable messes for a handful of middle class loudmouths who virtue bully their way around town with cameras and a narcissistic love of themselves and no one else. Pox on them and their two wheeled authoritarianism.

The guy on the bike didn’t bother with the bike lane for some reason. I see this all the time, long stretches of purpose built bike lanes up off the road next to a pedestrian path and they choose the road.

It says it in black and white above – the cycle lane only exists for 62 metres, it’s pointless and dangerous to use it.

Regarding other cycle lanes – there’s always a good reason why they’re not used. Example: Brand new cycle lane built in the new access road to Carrickmines Retail park. Except there’s no way to access it – kerbs all the way along. If I’m cycling there, I’m not going to stop, get off my bike, and lift my bike up over the kerb when I can just continue as I am. Most of the time, they’re unusable due to motorists parking on them.

It’s not pointless. It would have avoided the situation presented in the video, as it is designed to do. Drivers can’t just drive in whatever lane they feel works best in the given moment, I don’t know why cyclists think they can.

Hatred of cyclists is truly pathological, an absolute resentment at having to share the road with other users.

      1. Nullzero

        Who mentioned hate Nigel?

This cyclist didn’t care to use the cycle path and put themselves in danger to prove a point. They’re not impressing anyone with a modicum of sense.

There’s plenty of stupid motorists on the road but only cyclists wish to associate with everyone else who shares their preferred mode of transportation and then whinge about anyone who doesn’t do the same.

I did, in response to Toby’s screed. I think it was appropriate. Cycists have had to get used to standing up for themselves, because drivers really don’t seem to want to share the road at all.

          1. Nullzero

You mentioned hate, nobody else did.

You have to see everything in such a binary manner don’t you?

          2. Nullzero

Well you would. Everything has to be boiled down to the most childish level possible with you doesn’t it?

“you must HATE this group of people then…”

            Pathetic.

Give a person a bicycle and they assume victim status immediately and proceed on a mouthy self entitled campaign of self aggrandisement in the name of road justice. Ask NIge. He’s an expert on these things.

        1. Fergalito

          Eh, okay so.

I disagree but self appointed empty vessels regardless of cause tend to make a lot of noise and drown out the more rational voices imho.

Time cyclists paid insurance like all road users and road tax for all these improvements
A licence plate is also needed to identify the culprit if they hit a pedestrian

And of course it is driven by that nutter Keegan and his fascistic approach to the city and its travellers. Since all the bikers are wokies so no one dare take them on. May they fester on their otter skin saddles.

  3. James Cusson

Did Bodger look at the video before posting this? A better title would be ‘Cyclist refuses to use bicycle lane as it would ruin the opportunity to swear at a motorist and post ‘victim content’ online.’

  4. GiggidyGoo

So – it seems like there are two cyclists – with one making the video, which means they were two abreast when they came round the corner, one in the cycle lane, one in the car lane.

Maybe the lesson here should be – cyclists use the flipping lane that was put there for you !

I think he’s on his own and using some sort of 360 degree camera. One that he can change the viewing angle on after the footage is shot.

But having a quick look through Alan’s twitter feed there – he doesn’t really seem to actually enjoy cycling that much. More of a crusade to be fair and nothing he posts would make me want to get on a bike in Dublin.

Looks like a very stressful experience.

With cyclists I used to be pally
But some of them drive me doolally.
    They’ve been gifted some lanes
    Which they seem to disdain
And just ride where they like on their Raleigh.

  6. Hughie Luas

I’m a cyclist and I really hate other cyclists like this. For all the body cameras worn by cyclists, there is not one film clip of another cyclist breaking red light posted, ever.

And why are these outrages always taking place on the quays in Dublin, Camden Street, or Rathmines? Are there particularly lousy cyclists in those areas?

As my ex- said to me, “Learn to ride”.
