Facial recognition technology set to be used by An Garda Síochána will be able to identify and track people in real time using CCTV cameras.
Minister for Justice Helen McEntee announced last week her department is drawing up legislation to allow gardaí to use the technology to analyse CCTV footage for suspects in serious crimes or missing people….
…However, sources confirmed there will be provision for gardaí to use the technology in conjunction with live camera footage rather than just retrospectively.
This would allow the force to track people in real time as they move about in public.

I did think it an odd machine at the time but was blithely unaware of its purpose.

Yeah, Bob, a database with everyone’s biometric details, medical information, etc, which would be a neccesity, to compare against CCTV footage, sure what could possibly go wrong? What possible use could the State put that to, in the future, when they’ve got to monitor your carbon usage, vaccination status, political affiliations, social media comments, food purchases, etc?
Such a waste of money… any chance of a transport police… clear up the crack in cities… have rural garda station open etc… would likely mean less time looking at tapes my humans or machines in the first place…
You’re assuming, ce, that the future of our police force will involve pursuing criminals & that this is what facial recognition tech will be used for?

The only thing this will be used for is to track and fine political protesters. If they actually used it to track criminals and the courts followed through with convictions this would be great but we all know Ireland will have the same problems with crime in 10 years time as it does today

Extinction rebellion and BLM haven’t served their purpose yet – but will probably be targeted from once they’re no longer of use.
The “anti-demo legislation” wasn’t instigated for that reason, it’s purpose is to stop any/all demonstration deemed against the regimes will.
I think you’ll find they’re already targeted, with multiple arrests and court cases, and of course if you’re BLM all the rubber bullets and gas canisters and baton charges. Amazing how you have your rationalisation all ready to go. In the UK and the US anti-vaxxers are core conservatives, so unlikely to ever be truly targeted.
