Really sorry to read that there was a serious accident on the m50.
I saw pic and just thought it was bank holiday gridlock again.

Hope no one is seriously hurt.

For years I kept wondering how stupid it was to put a concrete wall in the centre of a motorway
The old style steel brarrierd could in case of a serious accident blocking a road simply open them up and have one lane of the poo side of the road ensuring at least some flow of traffic

Now look at the photos and realise the stupidity of what these idiots created
I wonder maybe a few public toilets along the side of the motorways are needed so people can have a pee as gridlock goes all the way to Belfast or cork

Kin, those concrete barriers are lethal. There are regular crashes against them that go under reported. Hit the steel barriers and they absorb the force and crumple back away from traffic. The concrete barriers throw the car that hits it back into the unsuspecting traffic. It is absolute madness, but, they are cheaper and that’s why we have them. Add to that the fact that we now live in a land where no news source will investigate why we paid for a motorway but we’re given a dual carriageway.

        And cu
Fact is the financial cost of what was lost in time due to this accident?
I for one do not agree with thee barriers costing less
I reckon a proper cost analysation was never carried out
We arrive e always told this and that and always much expensive
I would not trust one of them or believe the truth
Out of their mouths if indeed it was the truth

just goes to show the bottom feeders on here. A fatal crash causes traffic chaos. wtf is wrong with you? What a bunch of idiots. Concrete barriers were installed because the wire ones were legal to motor cyclists. they also prevent vehicles crossing the carriageway preventing less lethal head on collisions. don’t let the facts get in the way of your rantings.

Sorry anti bot, we are not referring to the steel wire barriers, which, much like their later cousin the concrete barrier, proved to be ‘cheaper’ but also lethal.. but to the the original crash barriers which are designed to take impact and crumple and are by far the safest barriers available. They are also more ‘expensive’ but have been proven to save countless lives of vehicle passengers and other road users… and, of course rip the cyclists.. and thoughts to their families..

            Jesus anti bot
If motor cyclists rode their bikes in a safe manner maybe a few might not be killed
Many times you see them weaving in and out of the traffic
And if I said black you would say white
As for your bottom feeding ?
As a teenager I rode scooters so I do understand the love of the wind in your face but my jaw drops at the antics of many bikers on the roads especially as you have no protection unless you use a condom

I hope that no-one is seriously hurt, though with three fire engines there this seems unlikely. So best wished for a speedy recovery, then.

I am curious. I may be misremembering, but I had thought that the M50 was supposed to have ‘breakaway’ or ‘crossover’ sections between the carriageways to allow contraflow lanes in just such circumstances. I know I have seen this in other countries. I does reduce to single lane for the bypass of the accident, but better than complete gridlock that we see here.

      1. Slightly Bemused

Ah dear! Thanks, ce. Sad beginning for a long weekend for some families.

Slightly bemused That would make sense to have sections that can be moved, but as we all know this is Ireland and I think unless they are on wheels you would need a massive crane to lift them
Sure we do not even have drainage on our dual carriageways and the cats eyes they have are like blind owls

    1. Mad

Surprising you’re not the one plastering it up here to be honest – it’s exactly the sort of bottom feeding in which you excel

      Feargie
I was done by dash cam footage by someone speeding that sadly I was slowing him down when I joined a dual carriageway of cork to clonakilty
I got this phone call out of the blue from a Garda at Bandon station saying I was driving erratically
He got pretty nearly when I questioned him and I agreed Ed to look at the footage in the station
I rang him to confirm he was there to show me it

When I turned up the footage was from this car which was travelling and there I was at the stop line waiting to join the road
When I pulled out there was loads of distance from him and there was two cars behind me
It’s a short distance around ten feet to join the road and I did have to pull out sharply as I was on the hard shoulder
Any way I did not hear beeping or even see a car about to hit me when I did join
On reviewing the dash cam I said I do not think I pulled out recklessly and the dash cam footage could not identify my reg so I assume he just did not have to jam on the breaks plus it clearly showed three cars waiting to join the road
I told that to the Garda and he did not like it and I also stated the guy was most probably speeding
He said that speed dose not enter into it and I said it dose
There was no speed indicator on the footage
So I requested a copy so I could get it analysed by a road safety expert
He told me I needed a solicitor to apply to the courts for a copy
A month later two summonses came in
One for reckless driving and the other for failure to stop at a road sign

I was livid and told my wife that I would appeal them
She told me just pay them. As to go to court will cost you thousands and lots of grief
      So I did exactly that
But the result of that is I would find it very difficult to assist our gardai with anything
