Ah here.
This morning.
Poll: Should mandatory face mask rules be reintroduced in certain spaces? (The Journal)
Update:
Um.
Meanwhile…
It's telling that the rise in cases and hospitalisations is bringing attention to the apparent (but completely false) benefit of masks but not the dismal failure of the vaccines to stem any of this. https://t.co/psSKIZ5ay7

Oh dear- the Covid Cult are still flogging that poor old horse.
Zero science to it of course- a few drops of the holy water behind the ears does the exact same job.
So you don’t like the answers.
“the answers”
ROFL at Tom J..
I think that’s a seizure you are having, you may need medical assistance.
It’s the Journal so its probably fixed anyways. Their “fact checkers” will have nothing to do these days.
The real poll is on the Luas and on the busses. If people feel they are needed, then they will wear them.
Good man Soq. First out of the traps. Their is no covid, no need for masks, no illness. You really are a total Trump supporter. nobody has died. its only a flu for d heads like you.
Well, Aunty Bot, you really are addicted to the old Strawman arguments, you would be a serial loser in debates against secondary school kids if you spouted such utter nonsense in a debating society.
You really are the Weakest Link.
Is it your Ma’s sister or your Da’s sister.Keeping it in the family.
Anyways I do sort of feel sorry for the Journal’s ‘fact checkers’- P45’s soon I expect.
Imagine having “Journal.ie Fact Checker” as a job title on your CV? Oh dear- you’d be better off just saying something more socially acceptable- like ‘Prostitute’.
A Prostitute is self employed so doesn’t need a CV.
They will need one if they are applying for a new job.
So why did you leave your last employment.
From the journal readers, no.
Still dismissing all the studies on masks that were shared with you on this site over the past 2 years? Pathetic
Wait til they see the ivormectin study!
The Swedish ones you mean?
Wear a tutu and a gas mask for all I care- just don’t think you will be forcing others to follow your superstitious rubbish ever again.
Have you ever counted up the hours spent pushing your nonsense? What a waste. Do you get excited at the notifications?
I can honestly say I continue to gain warmth from the knowledge of how little a life you must lead, faceless, ignorant and muddled.
Pathetic
A new username eh? Bugger off.
Masks don’t stop the transmission of viruses & there is no Santa Claus, Kim, no matter how hard you click your heels together.
But do masks protect you from getting jabbed from the public?
Asking for a friend.
@SOQ I carry a 9 euro meal with me in a lunch box at all times. I have to say, so far it’s been100% successful at keeping me safe. Now, if everyone did so, we could finally get this situation under control once and for all.
What does that mean? You carry a lunch box. That stops you getting sick? Why not carry pork or a gun. Or a fleg.
Hey guys, we got a live one here!
Are you actually as dim as you appear, Aunty Bot?
I prefer the holy water myself- in a spray bottle. Great for keeping the buzzing flies away too- pity I can’t spray it in here of course.
We were in rather a rustic beach shack the other day have a spot of lunch ( grilled red mullet and rice washed down with ice-cold Red Stripe ) and each table was provided with a water pistol and encouraged to fire at the chickens which occasionally came wandering in scrounging for food.
It was all rather good fun but the little blighters were adept at avoiding a soaking.
Seems all your chickens are coming back to roost tin man
And if they do reintroduce facemasks, and if facemasks don’t then stem the Covid surge (vaccine-driven), will they then please STFU about face masks for good this time!? Fat chance.
Yeah that’s not how it works. If the government measures are not having the desired effect it’s for one or more of the following reasons:
– we’re irresponsible and inadequate citizens for letting our guard down and not sticking to the protocols diligently enough
– the measures aren’t severe enough (is it time go harder: N95 masks for all, masks on the street, at home, masks on babies etc?)
– a new, even more extra-transmissible variant has arrived
– the anti-vax, anti-mask, anti-lockdown, covid-deniers are ruining it for everyone again
(have I missed any?)
The one thing you never do is to cast doubt on whether these government-imposed measures are of any use in the first place
HSE bots furiously clicking on “yes”.
that would be the version 1 bots that the hse have, that are controlled from windows vista..
With covid spreading this makes sense but I think the government just want to pretend its all over, they saved us from covid, let’s get back to normal.
is it really reasonable now that most cases are mild and they admit most hospital cases are actually there for other issues, everyone who is still terrified is wearing them anyway
‘Mild’ is relative, though, people are still ending up sick at home or in hospital and with long covid. Why would you WANT a highly contagious disease to spread? Especially when the population is full of vulnerable people?
we don’t WANT it nigel, we just couldn’t be BOTTOMED anymore.
Understandable, but…
The disease is going to spread either way at this stage though. Everyone who hasn’t caught covid recently is going to catch it. Its not going away.
As long as the hospitals aren’t overwhelmed (which they’re not, with approx 45 in the ICUs with covid) then theres no point in bringing back restrictions when theres no hope of the virus going away. All they do is delay, not prevent, people from catching it.
It was laways gong to become endemic, but being endemic means we’re actually capable of dealing with it., and if part of that means more people wearing masks, well it;s not the apocalypse anti-vaxxers like to scream it is. Which is fine, so long as a more deadly variant doesn’t emerge – touch wood.
Right, but whats the end game here? If you’re arguing to introduce restrictions now, when will they be removed? And what exactly is the purpose of them?
Because given covid is endemic, all they’re going to do is delay infections. And if anything, given our at risk population received their boosters in Nov/Dec, we want them to get infected sooner rather than later. The later they get infected the less protection they have, and the older they are on top. Their risk from being infected now in March will be much lower than in June.
No, I don’t think we need to reintroduce restrictions now. The endgame is covid always being around, but us being better able to deal with it. There are plenty of people who need to avoid infections since they’re high-risk, so that has to be part of it, but we can’t simply offload it onto ‘personal responsibility’ since that’s an abdication of public responsibility and we’re not yet a libertarian utopia where the weak are left to die.
Is anyone really terrified? I think people are being reasonably cautious, there are realities of covid that have implications for peoples lives.
I see pediatric diabetes type 1 diagnoses have increased and new diagnoses are much more likely in children that had covid in the weeks previous, to a stronger degree than from any other upper respiratory viruses (the mechanism of how it typically awakes in children). That’s not fun for anyone affected.
Are you saying babies are getting type 1 diabetes from covid? Is this an actual thing because this makes absolutely zero sense in relation to everything we know about where the disease targets and what type 1 diabetes is
Conclusions More children with T1D had severe DKA at diagnosis during the pandemic. This was not a consequence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Instead, it probably stems from delays in diagnosis following changes in parental behaviour and healthcare accessibility.
I’m saying a lot of diagnoses of type 1 diabetes in children are triggered by a recent viral infection (often upper respiratory tract), and it seems some viruses are more effective than others at being a trigger for it to manifest, and it seems covid is an extremely effective (I feel like I’m using the wrong word here because it sounds complimentary) virus at doing this. Moreso than many viruses. So there will be an increase in diagnoses in children. Some children that are more prone to diagnosis move thru childhood and avoid developing the disease by avoiding being infected with a trigger virus, some don’t, but the existence of covid in society will result in more of those children developing diabetes, and lower avoidance rates. Its just one of the ways that covid will affect society long term.
Are you a diabetic or do you have any understanding of diabetes, significantly how you can develop type 1 vs type 2? I suggest you re-read the paper and the 2 follow up rebuttals, it’s possible it was just poor wording on your part but to avoid scaremongering, no, children are not suddenly developing a primarily hereditary and potentially life threatening disease for infants from an upper respiratory infection that has nothing to do with attacking cells in your pancreas
I’m not diabetic, but I have a close connection that is. Viruses (that have nothing to do with the pancreas, can trigger the process that results in a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. Idk whether you’re suggesting that’s incorrect but it’s not really worth debating (its fact, look it up yourself). It’s not scaremongering either, it seems to be based in reality, but yes it is emerging data.
Also the amount of people being diagnosed over a time being elevated suggests a statistical change, and your comment on DKA earlier (which has nothing to do with the amount of people diagnosed (rather than symptoms at time of diagnosis) suggests that you’re not really entirely sure of what you’re talking about.
Lockdowns are the only reason they were not diagnosed in a timely manner as they couldn’t access hospitals. The world is genuinely fupping ridiculous at the moment
Nigel, great to see you cracking a funny, you’re so het up, these days.
49 people in ICU as of yesterday, 50% of hospital admissions have coincidental covid and as Gavin says anyone who wants to wear a mask will wear a mask.
I’d love if coincidental covid numbers had been reported from Day 1 – pretty useful to know but no point retreading a well beaten path.
You do realise that it’s not ok that people going into hospital for other reasons are either bringing covid with them or catching it there?
You might be right, the jury is out for me on the commoner garden variety of masks and their effectiveness.
The genie is out of the bottle now anyway, covid is running rampant through society. Covid is everywhere. We’ve all had it or have it in store. Seems like the unspoken government policy is to let that happen for reasons unexplained, possibly with an eye to herd immunity but who knows unless they tell us or it’s sniffed out if a tangible policy even exists.
I’m not sure masking up is going to diminish the spread when I look at the period pre the lifting of the mandate and the volume of cases reported along with the pervasive nature of the current spread.
Masking has been shown to reduce spread, though, even with relatively poor-quality masks. Has the side benefit of reducing the effect of air pollution and other airbrone diseases, too, which isn’t me making a case for a mask mandate, just pointing out that people will wear them, and for good reasons.
“ when I look at the period pre the lifting of the mandate ”
THIS!
“Ze masks (and goggles) do nothing”
It was supposed to be a battle against the pandemic to protect the people.
It became a battle against the people to protect the pandemic.
Not sure who wrote that- but nail on the head.
Nobody really expected so many people like yourself and Micko to actually take the pandemic’s side.
Ka-ching.
But isn’t that exactly the environment wearing a mask is still mandatory? So what’s the point of them if we still fear masked spreaders coming in to where everyone is wearing one? Doesn’t make much of a case for masks.
The problem isn’t masks – its mandatory testing in healthcare, and any health worker sent home for days on the basis of a line on a (still) questionable test. The coincidental half of patients now have even less healthcare available to them because of this on-going nonsense over what is now certainly nothing more than a flu.
HSE just can’t let Covid go – it is too handy a mask still for their real problems.
INMO looking for money
Just wear a mask d**kheads………..
No
Are you wearing one at the moment JoeC?
Don’t be making nuisance calls, it’s none of your business what anyone is wearing.
It is a valid question. It never occurred to most of those demanding mandatory mask wearing the last time to exercise some semblance of personal responsibility beforehand.
They could get ones with the Ukraine flag on them- kill to virtue signalling birds with the one stone.
@ SOQ, That was a joke.
Wear it if you want, I won’t be.
SDQ is still bashing the Bishop to the mortality rates from last year
Get yourself a gimp mask lad
WTF does that even mean?
Luke O’Neill terrified his media appearance money is going to dry up, another wave is great news for him.
Thought the exact same myself
Hey Luke!
Lean a little bit more into the microphone windshield and tell us more about that there science…
Masks don’t work. Sorry.
Yeah but Dr. Damian….
If you find yourself listening to Luke O’Neill, you need a map, cos you’re lost. That guy has lied & lied & lied, he’s a lowlife scumbag.
You think ?
I’ve always found Luke talks a lot of common sense and of all the experts has been the least alarmist and the most in favour of reducing restrictions as soon as possible.
You, on the other hand, have always struck me as being a solid gold imbecile.
I know whose views I trust.
What? This Luke O’Neil?
https://extra.ie/2021/02/25/news/irish-news/luke-oneill-vaccine-efficacy
Luke O’Neil “No end to the good vaccine news today- 5 vaccines give 100% protection against severe disease”
The usual Fake Pandemic supporters, reiterating their Fake Science, again & again, using the wrong terms, in the wrong context, with little understanding of what they’re talking about. Covid, Sars02, Coronavirus, Corona, all interchangeable words to them, all entirely different things, in the real world. They believe in masks, because they’re ignorant of how small virions are, they believe in the fake vaccines, despite them being the single biggest medical disaster in history but most of all, they believe in The Government, because they’re Reactionaries & fools.
It would be so irritating if it wasn’t so entertaining.
Do they believe there are people following them to stick them with the vaccine though?
Next crises is long covid
Bet within 2. Months they will have another lockdown if the hospitals are over run
Wait until the Ukrainians start using their medical cards and apparently very few are pro vaccine
Out of an abundance of precaution, is there any chance the government might add a few ICU beds throughout the country to better prepare for the next planned emergency? Or spend a few extra quid trying to clear the backlog of surgeries and consultations that were pushed to the ditch, for the least deadly pandemic the world has ever seen?
The Plandemic is fake, the damage it caused is real.
Government will wait for the peak of the current wave and then reintroduce mask mandates to coincide with the natural decline in numbers, thereby further convincing the dumber elements of society of the effectiveness of masks. Probably about 2-3 weeks from now.
This will also coincide with a rejuvenated drive to get boosters into everybody, especially the elderly who’s destroyed immune systems will see them hit during this wave, convincing again the dumber elements of the need for the booster whilst failing to realise it’s the vaccine that has made them vulnerable to what are now extremely mild variants.
Predictable at every stage.
