The drinks votes are in.

Last week, with a tipsy €25 Golden Discs voucher on offer, I asked you to name your favourite drinking song.

You answered in your belligerent tens.

But there could be only winner.

Third Place

I Wish I Was Still Drinking by Colin Hay

Mr P writes:

Usually when you hear a song that reminisces about bygone drinking days, it is often a song of regret and remorse, not this one!

Runner-up:

Limerick You’re A Lady by Sharyn Ward

Italia 90 writes:

I first heard this song in O’Sullivan’s in Crookhaven [County Cork] back in the summer of ’92 sung by the lovely Ann (one of the five Anns/Annes who used to comment on here regularly?) and to this day, it’s still my favourite pub song. Take it away Sharyn Ward! Can I also give a shameless plug to my godson in NY…

Winner:

A Pair Of Brown Eyes by The Pogues

Otis Blue writes;

‘And the arms and legs of other men were scattered all around. Some cursed, some prayed, some prayed then cursed…’. It should be the National Anthem.

Nick says: Thanks all. Hic.

Swimmers Jackson – Birthday Girl

Not a cover of the Microdisney classic but an original Weezer-inspired cut from Niall ‘Swimmers’ Jackson (top) that can be found on his new album Murmuration.

Niall says:

“It was borne out of a little frustration on my part that a) Nothing seemed to be moving for me, and b) I was really missing my bandmates so wanted to see if I could do this kind of song on my own.”

The video was shot, edited and directed by Ryan Phillips.

Nick says: A happy Birthday.

Vienna?

NO.

Dublin Civic Trust write:

A fleeting, rare capture of Arnott’s exotic silhouette with its Eastern-inspired central tower and terminating pavilions prior to decapitation in the late 1940s – the rationale at the time declaring the ornaments as serving “no useful purpose.” Other than civitas, heaven forbid.

Swedish Railway Orchestra – Brendan Gleeson

Action!

One of Ireland’s leading DJs and dance gurus Rob Smith pays tribute to one of our finest actors (top) with a pulsating floor-filler that has a distinct ’90s feel to it.

Taken from SRO’s self-titled album, due later this month.

The video is directed by Barry B. Bulletbelt.

Nick says: The Brendan voyage.
