A friend of mine was recently told if he was a d***head the girl he coveted would be far more inclined to engage in a relationship but nothing would happen because he was too nice.

As ridiculous as this sounds it’s a common occurrence; nice guys are giving women a dangerous ascension into the previous unchallenged male domain of hunter-gatherer. Dating is complicated enough without the tradition lines being blurred.

Guys, my advice is simple: grow a pair. Follow my example, take her down off that pedestal, and be more like yours truly. See women for what they really are: something to be enjoyed and used. They are complicated and illogical so until you find one that you can half put up with enjoy playing the field.

Greek police fired teargas and water cannons to disperse thousands of protesters who flooded into the main square before parliament on Wednesday in a massive show of anger against lawmakers due to narrowly pass an austerity package.

…In all, nearly 100,000 protesters – some chanting “Fight! They’re drinking our blood” – packed the square and side streets in one of the largest rallies seen in months, police said.

Let’s take the measure of what has happened, which is historic enough. For the fifth time in the past six Presidential elections, the Democrats have won the popular vote. For the second time in succession, Americans have elected a black man, the same black man, as President.

Throughout the country, Republican extremists…have been repudiated. Residents of Maryland and Maine (and probably Washington state, too) have voted in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage.

The United States of 2012 hasn’t turned into Scandinavia, but it isn’t the United States of 2010 and the Tea Party either.

…it was a triumph of moderation over extremism, tolerance over intolerance, and the polyglot future over the monochrome past

Last month, TG4 broadcast a blistering documentary entitled Iniuchadh Oidhreacht na Cásca (above) about the proposed development on Dublin’s O’Connell Street/Carlton site encompassing the1916 buildings in Moore Street.

The documentary makers alleged a secret deal was made between officials in Dublin City Council and developer Joe O’Reilly.to sell the site to O’Reilly’s Chartered Land and buy it back at a potentially higher price.

A special Dublin City Council meeting will take place on November 19 to discuss the issues raised in the documentary.
Tomorrow the Oireachtas Committee on the Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht are also meeting to discuss the sale.

But…

In a press release today:

“The Committee regrets the fact that the owner of the site, Chartered Land, has declined an invitation to address the meeting. Representatives of the company were invited to attend the meeting and every effort was made to facilitate them. However, we were unable to meet Chartered Land’s request to give its evidence in private session. Given the importance of the site, the Committee feels that this issue should be addressed in public.”
