Have you got yours?

Am I right to understand An Post employees received a memo last week from their union instructing them to stop delivering Referendum Commission brochures, with immediate effect?
Apparently this is due to a dispute on how staff are paid commission on delivering such items. The impact being, anyone yet to receive their brochure may not get theirs before May 22. I hope I am wrong given the urgency of such literature in informing the electorate in a clear and balanced manner.

Hector [Ó hEochagáin] was on the Saturday Night Show discussing how he lost his [2Fm breakfast] radio show and [host] Brendan mentioned losing the Saturday Night Show.

How is that Hector, whose show was doing extremely well, on 2FM, and Brendan, whose show was often excellent this year and even beat the Late Late Show with a fraction of the budget, etc. are taken off air? It doesn’t make sense.  (Full disclosure, I work for RTÉ)

“Seagulls keep banging on my window at 7/8am in the morning waking me up. If I leave them at it they’ll be going for hours. It was funny the first time it happened, but it’s starting to become a nuisance. Someone suggested that they’re seeing their reflections in the glass, but I’m not so sure. Any suggestions?”

Macker writes:

Alex White [Minister for Communications] wants to keep the Six Nations free to air. A lot like the Brits with their [British] Open Golf (now sadly gone to Sky) or the Grand National these events hold a special place in our cultural spectrum and should be accessible on the national broadcaster for ‘free’. So serious question: why do [some in] Fine Gael prefer to sell it out?

Part of the Driving Licence form (above) insists I provide my PPS number (to drive a car!) it further says details may be shared with third parties. If the issuing of driving licences is ever handed over to a private company (like NCT) is that not the same stuff that Irish Water went through? Are they building a national ID card by proxy?

Tesco in Sandymountis  suspending sale of alcohol from 4 – 7.30pm (I think) tonight due to the football match. Heard all off-licenses have been asked to do the same by the guards in the Irishtown/Ringsend/Sandymount/Donnybrook areas. Is there a precedent for this?

I’m making a collection of ruins, castles, scenic areas and other interesting places/ things around Ireland as seen by quad copter. I’m putting them up on YouTube to share with the world. I’m also making as much use of the quadcopter as possible to justify the cost of it to my long suffering wife :)

I would love to get suggestions to hidden gems in their local area or anything else in Ireland that might look great from the sky. All suggestions or ideas are welcomed!

In [PD founder] Des O’Malley‘s [recently published] autobiography he recalls being expelled from the Fianna Fail party [after supporting legislation that allowed condoms to be sold to people over 18 ‘without  a prescription’].

He was hauled in front of the party’s National Executive and he says only nine members broke ranks and voted to have him stay, ‘including Mary Hanafin’.

He mentions that Míchaél Martin was also present. Do any of your readers know how he voted [as Mr O’Malley does not state]?
