Deputy Kenny was speaking on his way into the final Cabinet meeting before September…
“I think they’re all tired,” he said. “This has been a long session. The Dáil has been sitting on Fridays, it sat late for June and July.”

And, as imagined by Hugh at 2CDesign:

“The Taoiseach was correct last week in not succumbing to the pressure and tactics of some to say “Yea” or “Nay” [on gay marriage]. This is not a political football…
…The [Constitution convention is important because it is about the lives of all our people. That is why I am proud of the Taoiseach and Tánaiste who in the programme for Government enshrined in this constitutional convention that we will have in the lifetime of this Government a plebiscite of the people which is as it should be.

Alternatively…

Just to be clear, a referendum is NOT required to bring about equal marriage – and I really wish news media would frame quotes like that with that piece of information.
The Irish Constitution does not define marriage as being between a man and a woman, and only if the Constitutional Convention says that it probably meant to (and then the Cabinet go with that way of thinking) would there be a referendum.
It infuriates me to watch news organisations and politicians lay back and wait for a referendum to happen as if inevitable, when having the entire population vote on the rights of a minority would be a black mark on Ireland.

Enda Kenny said Dr Reilly’s business affairs were entirely in order and that the minister had no difficulty in making a Dáil statement on the affair, possibly tomorrow. Mr Kenny said he spoke to James Reilly this morning, who had briefed him on the judgment registered against the minister and his consortium.

Enda Kenny’s comments come after a report found nearly two million people here have just 100 euro to spend a month after paying essential bills.
And half a million have no disposable income at all according to the Irish League of Credit Unions.

Taoiseach Says ‘Irish People Have To Deal With Our Economic Challenges’ (Newstalk)

“A formal complaint about Wednesday’s doorstep has been made by Fine Gael’s Government Press Secretary Feargal Purcell, stating: “The collective behaviour of the journalists in attendance was disgraceful.”

As one of the journalists present, I know that claim is as inaccurate as it is offensive and I would advise Mr Purcell — who recently took a wage hike of €3,500 to bring his salary from taxpayers to €119,795 as reward for getting the Government’s message across so well — that what is really disgraceful is a Taoiseach refusing to comment on one of the most talked-about issues of the day [gay marriage], and a press machine that far too often resembles a mess machine.

…Bizarre accusations of a woman journalist acting in a manner “tantamount to an assault” on the Taoiseach were also thrown about by some — but in reality the only assault that occurred was the one perpetuated by Mr Kenny and his press flunkies upon the nation’s intelligence.”
