Chairman of the newly formed Fine Gael LGBT group, Jerry Buttimer TD (above), said he is delighted that the newly appointed Lord Mayor of Dublin, Naoise O’Muirí, will march with the Party’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender group this Saturday at the annual Pride Parade in Dublin.

Deputy Buttimer said this year’s Pride Festival will be of particular significance to Fine Gael as it is the first year the Party will have an obvious presence at the parade.

“It is with a tremendous sense of pride that I will be taking part in this year’s parade, given that it is the first year Fine Gael will have a visible presence, in the form of our LGBT group which first met back in April.

Noise are an “independent non-party political group campaigning for the provision of civil marriage for all people in Ireland irrespective of gender and sexual preference, and claim that the Civil Partnership Bill passed by the Dail does not go far enough, highlighting a lack of rights of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender parents and their children.”

A transsexual woman and a gay man have taken their seats in Poland’s newly-elected parliament – historic firsts reflecting profound social changes in the traditionally Roman Catholic country.

Anna Grodzka, who was born a man, shook hands with several men and women as she entered the assembly hall. She took a seat next to Robert Biedron, a leading gay rightsactivist who is the first openly gay person to be elected to the Polish parliament.
