Alan Newman X DecO featuring Rapthor – Wait

Grand Theft Auto goes hip-hop.

Check out the ingenious promo for rapper Alan Newman‘s new track which was co-written with Dean Byrne and produced by Deco McGlade.

Alan (top right with Rapthor) says:

“The tune is about the frustration in waiting to unveil a creation and the effects of the anticipation. More often than not, the frustration kicks in early before the piece is even half finished which leads to a perspective struggle. A wreck-the-head labour of love.”

The video is credited to amilachamara and Yassine.

Nick says: A clean set of wheels.

Jape – Instrumental For The Lonely

Magic and loss.

Jape aka Richie Egan unfurls the latest chapter in his Sentinel video project.

Ais Brady directs this absorbing film in gorgeous monochrome.

Richie says:

“Ais  and the crew made something so beautiful and intimate – a meditation on the privacy of loss and how love can transcend physical presence.

“The idea really made sense when she described it to me and the wonderful video stayed with me long after watching.”

Nick says: Ah, look at all the lonely people.

Finbar Furey featuring Aine Furey – Blue Jewel In The Sky

Fancy a stroll down the Shelly Banks to Poolbeg?

Irish folk legend Finbar Furey (top) joins forces with his daughter Aine Furey and documentary filmmaker Dearbhla Glynn for the video to the title track of his forthcoming album.

Finbar says:

“I wrote Blue Jewel in the Sky at the end of the ’90s about the madness of man’s inhumanity to man. When the opportunity arose to make a music video with Dearbhla, I didn’t have to think twice. She is respected at her craft, working with an open heart, but not shying away from tough subjects.

“Dearbhla’s footage from Palestine and Eastern Congo help to shine a light on the suffering we know is going on, so we can all think about making changes in our daily lives in order for change to happen.”

Dearbhla says:

“It was great to film Finbar and Aine together down by the iconic Poolbeg lighthouse, and to try and capture a glimmer of their relationship and connection. They sing so beautifully together, and obviously have a wonderful friendship as well as being father and daughter.”

Nick says: Blue is the colour.

Van Panther – To Live And Die

If you’ve ever wondered what a drone’s eye view of a deserted lockdowned Limerick city would look like, it’s your lucky day.

Shane Serrano of Crude Media‘s video for Van Panther’s new single is visually arresting, as frontman Kieran Ralph (top third right) sings of escape.

Van Panther say:

“This is a song about wanderlust, but given our current circumstances, you will have to let the music take you there instead.”

Nick says: Limerick leaders.

The Pox Men – Ever So Jauntily (Nico’s Grave to See)

Legendary chanteuse Nico (top left) died on this day in 1988.

Donegal alt.folk combo The Pox Men wrote this ditty in her honour and captured their pilgrimage to her grave in Germany on film.

The Pox Men say:

“This video is a wee documentary journey to her grave. And the song fits in too. C’mon. We’ll come straight home.”

Nick says: Meet you at the cemetery gates.

Robb Murphy – Choose Your World

This should put a spring in your step.

Belfast troubadour Robb Murphy (top) asked his fans to send him in their videos of them singing along to his new single.

The expertly edited result is charm itself.

Robb says:

“Choose Your World is a song about how our thoughts create our world. By choosing to see things in a positive way our perception becomes reality and we are more thankful for all that we have. The song was written as a mantra to motivate me and I am hoping it will help others too.”

Nick says: Murphy’s lure.

Swimmers Jackson – Birthday Girl

Not a cover of the Microdisney classic but an original Weezer-inspired cut from Niall ‘Swimmers’ Jackson (top) that can be found on his new album Murmuration.

Niall says:

“It was borne out of a little frustration on my part that a) Nothing seemed to be moving for me, and b) I was really missing my bandmates so wanted to see if I could do this kind of song on my own.”

The video was shot, edited and directed by Ryan Phillips.

Nick says: A happy Birthday.
