This morning’s Irish Examiner

This morning.

Via RTÉ:

The headline and the representation of RTÉ’s correspondence with the Public Accounts Committee on the front page of today’s Irish Examiner is incorrect.

The relevant section of the correspondence, included  below, does not state that the RTÉ Player will require investment of tens of millions of euros.

It clearly states that “the level of investment is conservatively estimated to be several million Euro of capital investment as a minimal requirement.”

The tens of millions reference is to the investment of significant capital funding made by linear broadcast services over decades.

Relevant section of RTÉ correspondence with the Public Accounts Committee, dated 9th February states:

RTÉ’s estimated figure for the required investment needed in the RTÉ Player.

Further product technical scoping and benchmarking will be required to generate specific estimates, but as confirmed by the Director General at the Joint Oireachtas session of 26 January, the level of investment is conservatively estimated to be several million Euro of capital investment as a minimal requirement. In addition, further evolution of the service needs additional specialist skills which will require increased operating expenditure.

On demand and live streaming technology requires extensive investment and infrastructure to deliver parity of service with linear broadcast services, which have been in operation for many decades, with continued investment of significant capital funding to the level of tens of millions.”

Get My Sh!t Together.

A new potty mouth-titled RTÉ Player series presented by Carl Mullan and Pamela Joyce (top facing camera).

Via RTÉ

Available now on RTÉ Player, this three-part feelgood series follows Carl and Pam as they go though challenges to try and kick 2021 off in the right way. They know they are not perfect, they know they have bad habits, but they want to start the year off positively so embark on a number of challenges in a bid to get their sh!t together!

With episodes entitled Digital Detox, Get me a Routine, and #BeKind, the series offers a different take on the usual ‘new year, new me’ or new year resolutions approach, looking instead at the small things that people can do for themselves or for others while having a bit of a laugh at the same time….

A new original series has just been published to the RTÉ Player this morning. Over the course of the next 4 days, 4 new programmes will be dropped.

Kevin will speak to Derry Girls actress Saorise-Monica Jackson (top left), Pat Shortt, Joanne McNally and Don Conroy, but the difference is that he will be painting their portaits as he chats with them. What will each celebrity think of Kevin’s efforts?

Why is RTÉ Player showing me a crude mobile phone video clip apparently taken from some tourist of a  crocodile show somewhere in Asia when I’m meant to be seeing Nine News? The 30 second clip repeats 3 times before the news and 3 more times during what I assume is meant to be an advert break. I didn’t bother waiting for the weather forecast.
