I know you don’t usually do this, but I’ve had my bike stolen and its worth more to me then almost anything else in the world. I raced on it in my one international race for Ireland in Budapest in 2010…its is a Carbon Fibre Trek 5200 OCLV and is about 15 years old…it was stolen from outside Stephens Green Shopping Centre between 9.15 and 11 on Sunday 8th of December. Thank you for any help, I’m absolutely gutted to lose it.

I know you don’t normally do this but my bike was stolen from my apartment complex on Royal Canal Bank in Phibsborough [Dublin] at the weekend.

It’s a second hand bike made from parts from different bikes (not by me) and it’s worth only the change in your pocket but I love the thing.

It’s identifiable by dodgy gears, a saddle that’s torn to shreds and some orange tape around parts of the handlebars. I know the chances are slim but if anybody comes across it I’d appreciate a heads up.

A reward is being offered for the safe return of a three-foot high ‘Culture Duck’ which has gone missing from the Everglades Hotel.

The Culture Duck, which “lived” on the piano in the hotel foyer, went missing this week. The duck – a talking point for guests and visitors to the hotel – was created to celebrate Derry’s City of Culture status.

I thought you might enjoy this. Every morning at the bike park at my local train station here in Japan, the police go around with bright yellow tags marking all the UNLOCKED bicycles.

On the back of the tags it explains to the owners that by not locking them, they make the bikes more vulnerable to theft. On the front it says ‘Crime Prevention • Let’s Lock Our Bikes!’.  An irony that can only exist in a country with no street crime.

But…

Noah Horak (sporting the longer beard with his brother Craig) is a 28-year old electrical engineer from Minnesota who quit his job to go on a round the world trip (read his excellent blog here).

He arrived in Ireland yesterday…

He writes in Horizons Unlimited travel forum:

I’ve been in Ireland for less then 8 hours. This was supposed to be the 2nd leg of my RTW. My 2010 KTM 690 was taken from the corner of Talbot Place and Talbot street in Dublin in broad daylight. I was in a near by hostel resting after an overnight flight. I put a padlock through the front break but they cut the lock with a bolt cutter. Obviously it wasn’t enough. There was no luggage on it at the time.
The bike is white with a Rally Raid fairing. Minnesota licence plate 12071MH.

Anyone?
