Queen Herod will Find You by Queen Herod

A musical project from Dubliner Holly Pereira.

Aisling writes:

This tells the story of Queen Herod, a giant, murderous witch who lives in an isolated castle in the forest. She gathers the children from their homes and eats them. But does she eat them because she’s lonely, or is she lonely because she eats them?

Queen Herod

Track written and co-produced by Holly Pereira. Recorded and co-produced by Rian Trench. Mastered by Richard Dowling. Taken from debut EP Queen Herod, Granny Records, 2012. Video shot and edited by Holly Pereira.

Aoife Ruth (of The Annulments) sez:

With the week that’s in it, what with the Budget and the general squeeze, we thought ye might like this song. It’s called ‘Bank Failures’ and a guy called Bob Miller wrote it about the Wall Street Crash of ’29.

This is a video of us singing it at the Black Letters and Ballads night last month. Every month, performers have to find songs on a certain theme and at the last one, the theme was ‘Hard Times’ so this seemed pretty suitable! If it was written yesterday about the current mess we’re in I don’t think it could be more apt.

Quite.

It’s unusually heart-gladdening.

Eric McGrath – Til I’m Back Home

Eric writes:

I’m a musician from Dublin and have just teamed up with Make A Wish Ireland to release a charity Christmas song. I regularly browse your site and often see you post the odd music video. The song is available on iTunes and my website  with 100% of sales proceeds going to Make A Wish.

It’s unusually trippy.

The Olllam

Comprising John McSherry (centre), Tyler Duncan (left), and Michael Shimmin.

Paul Flynn writes:

I know it’s sometimes frowned upon but can you please feature this clip for The Olllam, the new group of my good friend John McSherry from Belfast who has teamed up with multi-instrumentalists Tyler Duncan and Michael Shimmin from Detroit and are launching their 1st album.
You will never listen to traditional Irish music the same way after bending an ear to this fantastic sound – there’s drum & bass, glam, with trad at its centre.

The Ollam

Moo- 2000 Horses.

Darren Flynn writes:

I know you guys don’t usually do this sort of thing, but we have just released this video and would be curious what readers think about it. We are a rock band from Dublin, Ireland, incorporating a wide variety of influences from Cinematic Western Scores to rockabilly, Latin-American grooves and rock’n’roll. We shot this video last May on the Dublin Mountains, outside and inside the pub The Blue Light.

Ellen & Carla – Dreamer

Catherine O’Mahony writes:

Thought you might like this video as I know you support new Irish music. My 15-year-old sister Ellen O’Mahony and her friend Carla Ryan are singer songwriters who play guitar, ukulele and piano. Their latest track “Dreamer” is a wistful love song and is something way beyond what you’d expect from two girls in Transition Year! I’m over in Oz and cried a little when she sent it to me, I have to admit :) Have a look and if you like it, I know they’d really appreciate the help getting their music out there.
