Pine The Pilcrow – Only Ghosts

Video directed by Donal Moloney, who writes:

A couple of months ago I was asked to do a talk in the Tara Buildings on as part of their excellent ‘Creative Mornings’ monthly program.

Prior to my talk the audience were treated to a few songs performed by a newish Irish group called ‘Pine The Pilcrow’. I had never heard of them before but they blew me away with their melancholic and haunting tones.

Their sound seemed a perfect fit for a video idea I had. Their new single ‘Only Ghosts’ (released today) was particularly suited to my notion. I approached them after the talk and they were more than keen to collaborate. I did some prep work and shot this (above) a couple of weeks ago with the assistance of some great friends. If you ever get the chance, check them out.

Warsaw Radio – Ms Monroe

Emma Harney writes:

Warsaw Radio formed in 2013 in Brighton when Nikki Bates (violin & vocals) answered an ad posted online by Limerick man Brían McNamara (vocals & guitar) looking for musicians to start a band…This is their new single off their debut album Midnight Broadcast due on March 23..

…The song and video takes inspiration from the relationship between film maker Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe… The narrative imagines Monroe giving advice on relationships…

Call Girl – Council Estate.

Barry H writes:

Call Girl are a guitar pop band from Dublin. They were formerly known as Death in the Sickroom, a band synonymous with intricate twelve-string guitar playing, glittering melodies, and acerbic portraits of unsavoury Dublin archetypes.

The change of name and style sees frontman and principal songwriter, Mark Heffernan, mature in his craft and further the group’s sonic progression with chorus laden ballads of self-doubt, grimier explorations of tension and momentum and colourfully overblown disco anthems.

Call Girl will play The Alternative Social Club in Toner’s , Baggot Street, Dublin 2 this coming SUNDAY afternoon at 4pm.

Brand New Friend – Girls

Jeff Robinson writes:

This is the first track to be taken from Northern Irish quartet Brand New Friend’s debut album ‘Seatbelts for Aeroplanes’ which comes out on 27th April 2018 on Xtra Mile Recordings.

The 13 track album was recorded with producer Rocky O’Reilly at the end of 2017 and is a collection of classic catchy pop rock tunes celebrating their youthful exuberance and excitement.

The video for ‘Girl’ was shot at the Duke Of York [Belfast] gig and perfectly encapsulates the youthful energy, fun and thrill of a Brand New Friend gig….

Who do we turn to To point the finger of blame?

Can we please do one thing right And not export our shame

No foreign empire Beat our children with this cosh

The greed around the country Has grown up up on our watch..

We had the unbelievable honour of being invited to play at Shane MacGowan’s 60th birthday celebration at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on the 15th of January.

This is the version of The Old Main Drag that we put together for the show.

Massive thanks to Sinéad Kennedy for use of the location, to the NCH Dublin for putting together such a mindblowing gig, and to Shane MacGowan for writing some of the best songs the world has ever heard.
