The potent subtext of debt-crisis ennui: a boon to advertisers.

Last week, we had the Dublin Airport Terminal 2 ad (allow us to expedite your emigration). This week, something new and stirring from Diageo.

Who’ll be next aboard the ‘Take Heart, Brave Wounded Ireland, You Can Do It With [your product here]’ bandwagon?

We’re guessing SuperMac’s.

Since 1980, Volkswagen in Brazil has sold a low priced compact car called the Gol, named after the Spanish and Portuguese word for ‘goal’, naturally. Two years ago, the company made a one-third scale variant for sub-5-foot ‘little people’ – the VW Mini-Gol.

It’s 2.25 metres long with a 5.5hp engine and a top speed of 27km/h. Aside from adjustments in scale, everything else (seats, dashboard and instrumentation) is identical to the full-sized Gol. So far, only two have been made.

Cute is not the word. Wee is the word.
