Speaking in the Michigan House Of Representatives on Wednesday against a new regulatory bill on abortion and arguing that her Jewish faith allowed for therapeutic abortion when the mother’s life is in danger, Rep Lisa Brown said:

“I have not asked you to adopt and adhere to my religious beliefs. Why are you asking me to adopt yours?” she said.

But what came next is what got her in trouble: “And finally, Mr. Speaker, I’m flattered that you’re all so interested my vagina, but ‘no’ means ‘no.'”

Yesterday the Detroit News reported:

“‘What she said was offensive,” said Rep. Mike Callton, R-Nashville. ‘It was so offensive, I don’t even want to say it in front of women. I would not say that in mixed company.’
“Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas, R-Midland, determined Brown’s comments violated the decorum of the House, said Ari Adler, spokesman for the Republican majority.”

Brown has since defended her use of the word “vagina,” saying it is the “anatomically medically correct term.”

What you need to know:

1. Anybody order some deep fried southern gothic, with extra ham?

2. Any film directed by William Friedkin will automatically come
attached with the tagline ‘From the director of The French Connection
and The Exorcist’. Fair enough.

3. He’s directed some decent movies since then – To Live And Die In LA (1985),
Sorcerer (1977) and Bug (2006), for starters.

4. Killer Joe is being released unrated in the US, due to nasty business
involving a chicken drumstick.

5. One Word: McConaughey!

Dublin city centre last night just before 10pm. This rank is usually mobbed with taxi’s. Not a taxi in sight on any of the ranks last night though. Thank god for the ‘foreigner’ taxi drivers who don’t care about Ireland soccer so when I could still get home when all the full time taxi drivers went on the piss.
