Lyra McKee is a young gay woman who wrote a letter to her 14 year-old self as a response to recent hate-filled speech by Christians.
She appeared on Monday’s ‘The Nolan Show’ on BBC Radio Ulster to talk about homophobia and coming out in light of Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh’s public announcement at the weekend.

What about the tiny percent of people who like having sex with mattresses? Possibly in public. Do they not count?
‘Tis a harsh world.
Good for you for hanging on. Life is hard enough without having to deal with societies prejudices. I wish you all the best.
I certainly hope they had some crackpot from Iona hurling veiled insults at her now. For balance, like.
Fair play to you Lyra…
Your friends mother who said she’d “beat the gay out of him” if he said he was gay must be only a couple of years older than me. Baffles me sometimes… the complete loons out there.
Just to be clear if a friends mother said ‘well, we should consider beating the gay out of him’ you would need to have another friends mother have say ‘well, we should consider beating the gay into him’ or you could find yourself in some very hot water legally.
Ah but, this was on BBC where they don’t have the same hysterical nonsense we have in the Republic… (they do, just not on the same topics like).
Ah, they do in fairness Clampers. It’s just that the other hysterical nonsense tends to overshadow it. Have you never heard the Radio Ulster version of “Thought for the Day”?
Impressive lady, worth following on twitter
Very impressive lass.
Iona et al brand of trenchant idiocy will no doubt trot out some scientific stats to discredit her. save your breath bozos.
