Energia’s ‘outsourcing grandad’ ad.
Harmless fun.
Or flagrantly divisive ‘auld fella’ bashing….
Senator Marie Maloney in the Seanad today.
FIGHT!
Senator Jim Walsh in the Seanad this morning spoke about intimidation and threats towards David Quinn and asked:
“Can we deal with these dangerous, vicious elements within the gay ideological movement?”.
Minutes later, Senator Ronan Mullen asked if GLEN could disassociate themselves from what was said “on the Saturday Night Live (sic) / Brendan O’Connor programme”.

Inspired by Randall ‘xkcd’ Munroe’s Map of Online Communities, Slovakian designer and map-maker Jay Simons sez of his highly ambitious and ongoing art project:
Map of the Internet – First of its kind on such a scale, this map aims for succesful compendation of The Internet to scale suitable for standartized online navigation. This project is still underway, new versions of this map will be available in ulterior months.
Due to the immense size of the Net, only a miniscule portion of it was chosen to represent it on the map. Otherwise, this map would be unreadable and probably undrawable in entire lifespan of average human being. This poster includes one full map of the internet, 4 minimaps showcasing NSA surveillance, most used social networks, most used internet browser, and worldwide internet penetration, list of Alexa Top 500 websites, quick timeline of the Internet History, top software companies and much more!

Part of today’s report on the Vatican by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
Recommending a new investigation into the Magdalene Laundries.
Mark Kelly, Director of the Irish Council For Civil Liberties (ICCL) writes:
“This is a devastating critique of systemic child protection failures by the Vatican which continue to have a profound effect on many people in Ireland. The report zeros in on some of the most egregious forms of abuse committed in this State under the ultimate authority of the Vatican. In the light of these unprecedented findings, the ICCL is calling upon the Pope’s diplomatic representative in Ireland, Archbishop Charles John Brown, Papal Nuncio and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps to provide a detailed account of the action that will be taken in this State to ensure that these shortcomings are rectified”

Ahead of Sochi.
Leanna Byrne writes:
Today’s demonstration was to show our continuing solidarity with the Russian LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) community in concurrence with the college-wide ban of Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble products. The decision to continue to protest against the Winter Olympics was made by Students’ Union Council in response to Russia’s ongoing violations of Human Rights Law and persecution of LGBTQ people.
