    Cool. Lots of film scenes are taken from art. And loads of paintings re-created previous scenes. Very popular during the Renaissance.

    You say inspired, ripped off more like. Just because it’s film it doesn’t justify it. You can’t copy music so why should imagery be any different?

      On the assumption that facts are of interest to you, even if they ruin a good whinge…

      Copyright has a term of lifetime of the artist plus 70 years, so classic paintings are out of copyright and can be copied freely.

      Any that may still be under copyright might simply have been licensed from the copyright owner.

      On a less snipey note, that Bruegel scene in ‘Solaris’ breaks my heart every time. With the Bach music. It’s gorgeous.
