Former Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness

I’ll not cheer ill health in a man
Even if he took part in a plan
To level the odds
By killing off prods
At such time a man does all he can.

Did ye see Ian Paisley Jr on the telly last night? It might be hard to fathom, but we actually *have* come a long way, baby….

Read about that this morning. We have come a long way baby and I found it pretty inspiring.

Given the attitude of the DUP over the last few years I am also surprised that the willingness Paisley showed still remains in the party. There may be hope yet.

Ian Paisley ain’t anyone of note in today’s DUP. Yes it was nice to see him recognise the efforts of a man who has helped the Paisley family become millionaires with their various sinecures as MEP, MLA and what have you. Even if I was in the opposite camp I’d be grateful too for helping me raise funds for the family business.

    Are people misreading this Limerick……

    I’ll “not” cheer ill health….

    ‘not’

McGuinness was the only political player among all Shinners that managed to maintain a decent amount of self respect and political integrity. I can only wish him well, and congratulate the man on the work done.

I’ve always had a soft spot for McGuinness, admittedlty… maybe it was because he stayed to do SF north of the border, and I got too much of that lying scrote of a pup Gerry and his Oompa Loompa friend.

Horrible little man. No surprise to see you refer to an eminent female politician in such a derogatory manner though.

Starting to expect this kind of tripe from Broadsheet.ie now. Expect a similar kind of sneer from Broadsheets resident FFer Derek Mooney next week.

Typical Free State attitude. I’m pretty sure he didn’t set out to kill ‘Prods’ . If the crown forces and their accomplices he did target happened to be ‘Prods’ then that’s the dirty war for you. Sad times and I for one can tell you I’m glad they’re over. Fair play to McGuinness, he was more of a Statesman than any other politician on this island

Yes. He defended his people when others (the 26 counties) pretended the place didn’t exist.

Right on Moynes..is still stymied by this stain on tjis state, that is the cozy little free staters…like these disaffected white males …feel threatened now because grand daddy backed the right horse .The author feels entitled to the states airwaves. 3rd generation RTE ..off course you would expect this low blow

I believe that the use of the term “prod” by John Moynes in his limerick is offensive and sectarian. I moved to Ireland from Wales with my wife who is Irish a number of years ago and it upset me terribly to see what I always believed to be a highly derogatory term.
