More Floors, Vicar?

The proposed Vicar Street Hotel in the Liberties has already received planning permssion

The “Rock and Room” is said to be a package of tickets/room/meal and membership of a new private club on the hotel’s 8th floor with views out over the city and direct access to the venue.

The redevelopment will see the main stage moved to allow an extra 500 seats.

Peter Aiken, who has promoted shows at Vicar Street since its opening, said, “We are delighted to be involved with such an innovative scheme which will bring a new experience to our clients where they can relax after a show and not worry about getting home.”

I’ll bet we’ve stood awkwardly in the queue on many an occasion and never knew.

All for hotel in this area, but..
Vicar St nice and intimate for gigs. Shame if new venue was TOO big!

don’t get me wrong, I’m for building new buildings, but why are all the new buidlings bland and rubbish looking? all. of. them.

It used to be a proper pub at the start, if I remember correctly. I seem to remember going there for drinks during the week when it wasn’t open as a venue. Twas nice to have a choice around there: I used to drink in Fallon’s otherwise. Less so the Green Lizard (gulp).

Oh, Janet. It’s been so long since I’ve been there I can’t remember.
        Sigh.

Jaysus, in a couple of years time Dublin 8 is going to be entirely made of hotels.

What’s the story with the artists impression. Where are the cars. And the street. There ain’t no park at the back of Vicar street.. shit design and a hotel where no one gets to sleep till 2am..

          1. Cu Cullan

Indeed.. any kind of a seeing to would work for me.. but they won’t have the tiny bottles of shampoo and body wash made of exactly the same ingredients (things you notice) they’ll have a tube on the wall..

I think it’s taken from the perspective of some really ugly corporation flats that back onto the venue- there is no way it will ever look that nice. I live in Liberties and it is getting better but there will always be a bit grimey. Try walking on Thomas street on an evening and it’s nasty! Gentrification is not going to be an issue there!

Isn’t there a basketball court right at the back where a yo! got shot last month and a place to park your beaten horse?

Absolutely no interaction from the ground floor of that blando-building with the vibrant scene of the “public plaza” portrayed in their shite render image. Same old same old that’s being rolled out all over this town, destroying any existing character our streets have, and hotel-ising the entire city. So few modern developments have any actual value or contribution to the city. I’m so sick and bored of the crap that keeps getting built. sigh

Ah well cannot stand in the way of progress
On the upside a few jobs created
On the down side a sterile ugly blot on the landscape but nothing as bad as the building on duke street which houses nespresso

Could we not try standing in the way of progress this time? Just give it a bit of a lash, you might be better at it than you think
